I don’t know the area well, but I found these on an internet search and hope they are of help.

Saga Motor Hotel--near Downtown Pasadena

These are near downtown too, but I believe they are closer to what is called "Old Town" Pasadena, where all the shopping is located and is the newer area.

You really cannot beat the Langham Huntington Hotel, its is gorgeous and in a beautiful residential neighborhood not far from downtown.
