A Couple of Thoughs on Reviews

First, let me confess that I don't do reviews, so am open to a since-you-haven't-ever-done-one-what-do-you-know criticism..........but, I'm curious as to how many of you think it would be helpful if VIP reviews had an enforced word limit.  When reading them over, you often have to plow through an enormous amount of narrative, sometimes even "Deep Thoughts from Jack Handy" stuff that takes forever to get through.  I would guess that most of us go to the reviews with a Jack Web "just the facts" prefernece rather than looking for Letters to Penthouse.  Maybe a word limit that allows for a little of both?

Also, does the system allow updating a profile?  Sometimes when you read the reviews you can see that the profiles are clearly out of date.  Over time No's become Yes's and Yes's No's.

Thanks.

really long reviews (always w/o paragraph breaks, jeez!) that abruptly end in mid-sentence, indicating they've reached their word limit.

Updating profiles can be done if you can prove something has changed since the profile was created.  If a provider's profile was created 10 years ago but her age is still listed as 21-25, then it will be updated if you do a problem report.

You've never done one so what do you kow? LOL just kidding. There is a 4000 character limit for the general details and a 6000 character limit for the juicy details. Characters include punctuation and spacing etc. (nence the no paragraph breaks on some Bigpapa. that takes up a lot of characters) Some reviewers tend to write novels, and some try to get by with a couple sentences. You are free to read them or not of course. Or to skim through them. Mine tend to be on the long side, because I feel I have a lot to share. I also personally like to read longer ones if they have the kind of information I am looking for. otherwise I will skip or skim. No you can't go check them because I am posting this under an alias. Sorry ;)

Both the general and juicy details need to be at least four lines long.

Why did you post your reply under an alias when you obviously have a lot of experience to share with your fellow  hobbyists?
I still can't figure you guys out!!!! Isn't being honest and forthcoming a big part of this wonderful TER community?     This is one of the only arenas where we can all be REAL, objective, and authentic!!!!

tend to be clouded by the reality of what is considered "the truth."  Besides, our group can twist and turn the truth to whatever reality we want or believe it to be, as long as it serves our purpose.

Why are you asking what is the limit? You could have just read the post and known what the limit was. and if you didn't believe me, you could have looked it up yourself. I explained the limit in my post. Of course anyone could have looked it up. It is in the TER review rules. It doesn't matter if I posted under an alias or my real handle, or my real name and SS number. I posted the limit as posted by TER. I'm not making up shit.

I don't understand people who reply to a subject line without reading the post. I also don't understand all the anti alias posts. Now I can see being upset when people hide behind aliases to bash others. I did no such thing here. I posted some TER rules. And by the way there are some other TER rules. One of them is that aliases are allowed to be used. In this case, I used an alias because I don't want everyone cliking on my reviews to see who I have seen and when, and how long my reviews are, and if they are too long and boring, or if I used up all my 6000 characters. (I did on one of them) Now the op is obviously against long reviews by his post, so I answered his question politely, without giving him access to my reviews. I don't necessarily want him clicking on them and saying, "These are exactly the kind of reviews I hate reading"

I post many forum posts under my real handle and many under a few various aliases. I pick and choose when to use them. Not you Miss Wompus. Have a nice day.

What say 750 words max for the VIP entry?

notaclown112 reads

Think about it. the current maximum is 6000 characters. 6000 divided by 750 is 8. that would be 750 8 letter words. Granted most words are shorter than 8 letters. but some are longer, and the 6000 character limit includes periods, commas, quotation marks, spaces, paragraph indentions, etc, etc. So while you are complaining about some reviews being long, you are suggesting a change that is not a change. And actually it is much easier to limit "characters" than "words" anyway.

Some clarifications:

First, the attached hyperlink to the "GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING REVIEWS" shows no character or word limits.  (There may be some old, previously published limits, no longer published, that have been common practice.)

What I am suggesting is creating a formal limit. 500 words is a lot, and really should be more than enough and allow for a balance of the facts and "juicy details."  750 should be the outer limit.

This would control the ones that get to thesis length.

Just a suggestion.  Not the fate of the world.

1)There is a limit. I already told you what that was.
2) Your proposal makes no sense. You an control the number of characters. You cannot control the number of words. And your suggestion of word quantity is substantially equal to the character total which is in the rules now. So it is a moot suggestion as mentioned in my second post to you.
3) you are free to not read the long reviews
4) you never wrote a review, which is why you don't know the limit.
5) the rules i stated are current not old.
6) try clicking on "submit a review" and scroll down pass all the profile stuff to the box where you type in the actual details and note the maximum.
7) the rules are not in your hyperlink. They Pop up when you actually try to write a review.
8) do you not believe me because I use an alias? Are you going to be like miss wompus? Is posting under a alias worse than someone posting under his real handle with zero reviews suggesting changes to review rules?

All you had to do was click on "agree" at the bottom left of the hyperlink, you posted and it would have taken you to the next page where you would have seen the character limit that somehow you think I am making up.

If 3500+ word soliloquies of effusive post coital musings don't entertain; Change the channel!

I'm curious, what is your idea of a good review? I guess mine tend to be a little long winded, but what I try to get across is the nature of the experience, especially in regards to GFE.

If you mean by "facts" just a listing of services performed and positions attained, those types of reviews don't really give me the info I'm looking for. I'm always curious about what makes a performance a 10 instead of a nine. I know some of that is a result of TER's point system. But for me, it's more that just that, and that is what I look for in checking out a provider I am looking to see, and it is also what I try to get across in my reviews.

Just reading a litany of positions does not really tell me much. What is it makes a good review for you, since you seem to be unwilling to let us see what it is you choose to write in yours?

"I just spent 4 extra minutes reading a review to get the information I wanted. That was way too much trouble. How can I make this easier on me? I know, let's force these guys to write shorter reviews! Who's with me on this!?"

With all respect, don't we have enough unnecessary rules in the world already. Let's leave that to the politicians. You say you "have to plow through an enormous amount of narrative..." --- No, you don't -- There's a handy little device called a mouse. You just click on it and go on to the next review. BTW, if you limit the word count, what makes you think the reviewer won't cut the "facts" and keep the narrative?

IMO you're making the classic mistake of thinking everyone has your tastes. FWIW, I"m the opposite. I often skip short reviews because they rarely give you a sense of what the girl is like. Many are just shopping lists of positions: "We did CG, mish, doggie, standing doggie, lazy doggie, doggie doggie, double dip doggie..." and some acronym I never heard of. "She's really great at WYXDKZQ... I love girls who can do that with their feet behind their ears!..."

That's all great but, I appreciate reviewers who give me a sense of what the girl is actually like. Low key, starts slow but warms up if you give her time. All over you from the moment you walk in the door but sticks to a script. Warm and personal. Confident pro. New but eager to please. Wants you to take the lead. Bubbly. Hesitant. Sensuous. If the writer takes the time to give me a feeling for this girl, there's a better chance I'll make the right choice and have a great time. Deep Thoughts from Jack Handy? Bring it.

I don't mean to flame you (having a little fun) -- you have the right to your preferences and to dislike long reviews (and long posts like this) --- but turning your preferences into rules for everyone else - no, not a good idea.

Now I think I'll go write a long review while I still have the chance!
