Everything Changes--Ruminations on A Rainy Sunday

At site below (sorry I couldn't figure out how to paste in the link) writer Amanda Hess talks about how the porn industry has changed since the dawn of the internet.  Mostly she observes that the fourth wall may well have disappeared and with it some of the respect or at least civility of porn fans.  Of course you can draw your own conclusions but it made me wonder about the porn industry's cousin hobbying.  Forgive the old guy recollections once again but it wasn't that long ago that you took your chances with escort ads in the yellow pages, that greek and doubles were as hard to find as a liberal at a gun show, and that at best your shot at a good night was about 50/50 based on that phone call to a number out of LA Weekly:

Me: So I'd like to see two girls who are . . . very comfortable with each other.
Booker: Are you on coke or something?
Me: No I just want to see two ladies.
Booker: Well I can have two ladies there within the hour.
Me: Well can you tell me what they look like?
Booker: What are you looking for?
Me: Young, slender build, attractive.
Booker: And you want two?
Me: Yes.
Booker: And how many of you are there? Are you drunk?  Is this a bunch of guys having a party?
Me: No, I . . .
Booker: I have Patty and Selma.  They can be on their way in 5 minutes. Do you want to do this or not? I can't spend all night just talking to you.
Me: Click.

Now I see ladies on this site who range from pretty to beautiful, who have fitter bodies than I could ever aspire to, who offer CIM, DATY, doubles and a host of other fun activities.  But I wonder how this has changed expectations for the lesser.  Are some of us hobbyists becoming jaded, disrespectful, even unappreciative of the good thing we have?

I can say that I have never tried to negotiate a lady's rate but I read about others who do.  Is this disrespectful or just a reality of the changing market place?

I still treat the ladies I meet with what I hope is courtesy and regard.  Is that a diminishing trait in a hobby where it's so easy to just move on to the next one?

I think we older hobbyists still think of this as a naughty and easily lost if not cared for pleasure.  Is the same true for younger hobbyists or is this all as fungible as the thousands of porn sites available for free?

Or is it simply as Marcus Aurelius advises us:  The Universe is change.

In the 80s it was easy to get burned. You didn't know who was standing on the other side of the door. Service was always YMMV and up-selling was pretty much the norm, unless you found a girl who you could connect with from the beginning. I was lucky to find a girl in the valley who would have consistent performance every time, and we became friends until I joined TER and then was exposed to a wider community than LA Weekly could ever provide. One thing that was 'better' was that back then there was no photoshopping and, at least for me, the girls looked pretty much like their pictures in the paper, although I do remember seeing some pictures that were TGTBT. Ahhh, the old days......
