LA friends, I need your help to help me plan my visit in a couple weeks!😅

Which neighborhoods aren't the hugest hassle to get to from Hollywood?

I have a recurring issue whenever I try to visit LA where I almost tell someone I can go see him in X area as maps says it's a 25 min drive, before realizing it'll be 2 hours 🤪

Pic shows areas where I (maybe foolishly?) believe I'd easily be able to get to from Hollywood (I have a rental car, for context)

Ironically, trying to use the distance shown on a map (like Google Maps) is useless in determining likely drive time.

Traffic congestion is the key.  You can use settings to in Google Maps to estimate drive time. Use the "directions" function, set your start and destination, then click on "Leave now" and switch to either "depart at" or "Arrive by" to get a estimate of the drive time at different days and times of day.

It's more work, as you will need to do this for each of your listed areas. But here's a short cut: the closer you are to Downtown LA (DTLA) the longer it will take to get to / go to anywhere.  And crossing through DTLA to get from say north to south, or east to west, is even worse.

You will be better off picking a smaller section of LA or a quadrant for your workable area. It probably won't be practical to try to drive more than 15 miles (about a 30-60-minute drive) to get to a client. And the same for clients driving to you, except that parking at or within 1-2 blocks near your location will be nearly impossible.

Consider staying in Glendale/Pasadena, Santa Monica/Beverly Hills, or the Valley (Sherman Oaks to Woodland Hills). The potential clients who live in those area will be much more likely to see you then they would if you are in Hollywood.

Time your driving.  If it's between 7am-10am or 3:30pm-6:30pm don't commit to anything.  Stay within a few miles or walking distance.

Once I get a deposit I book my hotel. If he wants DTLA, or Woodland Hills I book where it’s convenient for my dates.
