I don't know myself, but I found a story in the current LA Weekly interesting.

The son of the mistress to the founder of Clifton's Cafeteria wrote a story about how they met.   The story notes that in 1958 he came to the "chiropracters" office in which she worked as a "nurse" and all the "patients" seemed to be male, and require treatment in one certain area.  He became a regular, and they fell in love.

I wonder how they advertised their services?

after all, our is the oldest profession!

It's so simple a caveman can do it!!

That's a very interesting story!  It's fascinating how these industries have developed over time--not to mention the internet renaissance that changed EVERYTHING.

As far as the history of happy endings... several ancient cultures are known to have documented therapeutic benefits of ALL sorts of fun sex  Good to know that many of our ancestors were able to enjoy these delightfully raunchy pastimes.
