Agree to disagree, then.
I have to (even strongly) disagree with the notion that just because I am paid for my time, that suddenly means that all interaction within that paid time is disingenuous and fake/manufactured/whichever adjective you'd like to use.
Yes, I am a professional entertainer and I am paid for my services, entertainment being chief among them.
Yes, I am genuinely interested in what people have to say when I am engaged in a conversation.
Two things can be true at the same time, and in my case, both of those things *are* true at the same time. I am fascinated by people and their life experiences, no matter the context, but the professional boundaries exist in *this* context, which means that I'm paid for my time, and always paid for my time, as a way to demonstrate that the boundaries are always clear. Those boundaries don't lessen the articulation of a human connection, however.
Not saying this is true for all providers, but it's true for me.
To each their own, though. Not everyone is looking for a verbal connection beyond "damn, you look hot, take that off" and I won't shake a stick at 'em for it. Different strokes, and all that.
