One leads to the other.  

"Foreplay" isn't limited to the bedroom, either, IMHO. It can start by doing something together, and not necessarily something overtly intended to lead to the bedroom. A fun day out on a boat can lead to an enjoyable dinner which leads .... well, you get the idea.

I guess I'm driven not only visually (i.e., what she's wearing), but also mentally (our connection). If both are good, the sex is awesome. If only one's good, the sex is still good, but not amazing. And if neither are good, well....what the hell are you doing there?

Rent TOM JONES with the young Albert Finney....  In one sequence, famous in the film world, he and a damsel are dining at a British inn, slavering over oysters and lobster and chicken...licking their lips and letting juices drip and flow where they will....  Truly one of the most erotic scenes in all film, and they never leave the table.....  Now THAT'S foreplay....

The squire with the daughter played by Susannah York, urging several randy young British men to ravage his own daughter....  The scene where Tom and a young hussy who has been attacked by another man are walking along the path, with Tom swearing he will not look back at the partially disrobed hussy....  Echoing so many mythological tests of fealty and trust....  Truly a spectacular movie, including its breaking the fourth wall and having Albert Finney address the audience directly.... SO ahead of its time....

I put a lot of my effort into foreplay and good, hot steamy sex.  If the girl I'm with doesn't do good foreplay...then I will not be returning.   I don't like the girl to be so mechanical, or just going through the motions.  Like it was said earlier...good foreplay leads to good sex
