I'm sure that most of you have already learned this important lesson: being sure to check the "Spam" folder on a regular basis....

Today I had the awful experience of having had a *friend*'s emails go to my spam folder.  We weren't able to speak by telephone and so his only means to contact me was email.  Here, I was under the impression that he had simply forgotten about the date, changed his mind, or that something came up.  It was not until about eight hours later that I discovered his emails there in the Spam folder.

It really saddens me that this caused us to miss our date, and caused him such great inconvenience.

I also learned tonight that there were a total of 12 unread messages in my Spam!!  What the hell?!  About half of these were from people contacting me for the first time, who probably think I ignored them :(   Just think of all the wonderful dates I could have enjoyed and potential new friends I may have made...

Are there any settings on my email I may be able to modify in order to decrease the chances of messages going to Spam? I poked around in my yahoo account a bit and really just don't know what I can do, if anything...

Readers, thanks for your time.

xoxo
Lela

Yahoo used to have a checkbox that said "automatically send suspected spam to spam folder"
Just looked around my old yahoo account and can't find it anymore.
Yahoo Mail changes too often..

I think all you can do now is mark each client's email as 'not junk'
Maybe it's time for a new email service provider?

Just add their email addresses and contact information to the address book of your email service.  Then it will always go through.

It sucks to do this, but that's a foolproof away around this issue.

previously. It would have worked for the gentleman in question with the missed date. But she also mentioned that a bunch of first time contacts ended up in spam, and it would't work for them.

Her best solution is to always check her spam folder.

go to "settings", then "filters".  Click "+add".  Then where it says "Recipient contains" enter your own email address.  Make sure the action is " Then deliver the email to the following folder - Inbox"

I've got no way to test it, but it might work.  I suppose the other way round is to have this setting set to deliver all your email to Spam folder, and then you know to check your Spam folder every day.

Hope this helps.

This post was such an excellent reminder, Lela. For both providers and our sweet hobbyists. After reading your post, I just checked mine and had several from potential 'new friends' wanting to make appointments, as well as some i have already either seen or have been previously emailing... Clearly no rhyme or reason for the spam selection process:( Thank you for the reminder, it's most appreciated, as I would hate to ever come off as a flake! Hope your New Year is off to a great start and hoping you and i will meet soon for some fun:)

Always check your "spam" folder..

amazing what ends up in there..

I have a client that suddenly started ending up in my spam folder even with their address on the "approved" list..

Look for mail from [email protected]

Thanks Lela for important post.  Sorry to hear about your meeting.
