It's a unque crownd but the morning are also great. I also take it that you went to Manuels in East LA for their burritos. Then try the Stinking Rose on La Cienega, it's all garliclicky, if that's a word. Then try Casablanca in Venice, it seems Spanish and they'll make home made flour tortillas right in front of you. I will second Jitlada as being both adventurous as well as spicy.
While not "adventurous" per se, I think Adana in Glendale/Burbank is "different" and very good. It is Armenian. Then there are a ton of Chinese restaurants in the SGV that out out a lot of different foods that may or may not be adventurous for you.
