Your impression is perplexing.

Some gather information to give themselves a necessary comfort level in an area of unfamiliarity. The nuances of the law in the area this forum deals with can be tricky for the uninitiated.

It must be nice for guys like Swim, who know it all. But I'm just an average schmuck who tends to be cautious in even the legal aspects of life. I for one can appreciate a forum like this that can address certain issues without having to use the main discussion board.

Seeking information to allay concerns seems like a reasonable way to approach trepidation. Swim's statement to "either stop worrying about the legal problems and/or consequences, or stop hobbying" sounds like advice from a guy who has never been caught or busted.

Knowing your rights and options is always a good thing- both in this "hobby" or in real life. This forum offers some insights into both.

As always, I could be wrong since I'm not very bright...

Swim, because it seems that some of the questions take paranoia to the extreme, but maybe this allows them that one last kick in the ass to have fun.

I wish that people would read at least the top two pages before posting, though.  Chances are, the question has been answered.  I would also suggest a trip to the Newbie Board on search tips and techniques before coming back and posting a question.

You definitely have a point though.  People have to understand that, except for a few jurisdictions, what you are contemplating here is ultimately a criminal violation that can lead to arrest and unwanted publicity.  If you are not equipped to deal with that risk, then you should stick to beating off or having civilian affairs.  There is no real, legal based, rationalization that will reduce the risk.  If you can't get past it, then you will not enjoy this experience.

my 2 cents

...Could easily go on the newbie board as well. I am flabbergasted by some of the stuff that gets asked here but I take it from where it comes. Most true legal advise for the hobby would be regional by nature as soliciting laws vary from state to state.
Folks who show up here looking for loopholes (if I put the money under a rock three blocks form the hotel and pass her a note written in hieroglyphics as to the location and pay in gift cards is it still against the law) crack me up the most.

I agree in one regard. What we are doing is illegal and there is no way around that. Either go for it or don't.  Still, I can't blame those who are new to this for being a bit paranoid and trying to calm there own fears by asking a few questions.
