This is going to get me fried on the boards but here goes.

Hypothetically say I joined a sugar daddy site and met a 19 year old online.  Let's say we've only exchanged emails.  Then she admits she's 17, still want to meet (no money exchange) and says she's legal in Kansas.  The age of consent is 16 there.  

Is she really legal?  Besides being a bad idea would any laws be broken to meet her for coffee and potentially more? Should I report her to the site and get her off the board?

1. She could be working for LE and this is a setup. Remember all those "to catch a predator shows" MSNBC and NBC ran a couple years ago.

Think about it...

Why would a girl post on a sugardaddy site posing as 19, say she is 17 and wants to meet without getting paid. The purpose of the sugar daddy site is to get paid among other things.

She could be trying to bait you.

2. Be very careful about "age of consent law." In most states "age of consent law" only applies if both persons engaged in sexual acts are below the age of 18 but above the age of 16.

If you are over 18 years old and she reports you to LE, you will be charged with rape or sexual assault of a minor which is a felony.

The "age of consent laws" were adopted by many states to protect from legal entanglements, frisky teenagers with raging hormones who did not know any better at the time.

"Age of consent laws" do not protect adults who knowingly have sex with minors.

Why? Most adults are deemed to be mature enough to make common sense decisions.

3. I would report her to the sugardaddy site and have her profile delisted.

Unless you like the idea of spending the rest of your life in jail, I would cease all contact with her and forget about even a "coffee" meeting.

Kids are not very stable emotionally as well as psychologically. All she has to do is say something to LE and they will always take her word, even if it did not happen. That is why I would not chance even a "coffee" meeting with her.

I don't think there is anything hypothetical about this. I think you have met a 17 yr old or you want to, in order to fulfill some perverted fantasies.

But if nothing ever happens outside of the state's borders, then maybe its OK.  Emails could be a problem.  I'd be sure they never mention any sexual activity.

Also, I think you should report this.  It could be a trap for the unwary.

I don't know about legalities in Kansas, but I'd be scraed sh*tless by anyone that close to the line.  She could even have a fake id.  And that's if she not a decoy.
My spidey-sense is tingling.  I'd have nothing to do with her.

I am truely offended you people think i might actually do that! Just kidding - I would never though. The concept was tempting for about 3 seconds but I cut off all communication before this post. This was totally hypothetical (and not the usual TER "I already stuck my dick there sense")
Laws aside seeing her would be morally reprehensible.

I  can only speak for my state, but is my state the age of consent is 16.  An exception would be if the older party is in a position of authority over the younger party.

If the younger person is 13-15 and the older is 3 years older, than its statutory rape.

12 or younger is child molestation.

I was aware it was 18 to vote, buy lottery tickets and get into certain clubs. Then, 21 to drink, but I sure didn't worry about "age of consent"!

I'm not a lawyer but in states where the age of consent is less than the age of majority (i.e., 18), charges such as contributing to the delinquency of a minor are used as alternatives.  Even thought at this stage you're just drinking coffee, I'm sure the conversations you're having could easily be found to justify delinquincy charges.

Regardless, this is the wrong place to find an answer.  There must be some legal resources where you can find some arrest statistics on activities with 17 year olds in Kansas.  My sense is that the authorities would devote more time to pursuing offenders associated with younger people BUT where parents are involved, and they're the ones that press charges, you never can tell what can happen.  Remember, their little 17 year-old princess is NEVER at fault for joining a web-site in search of financial gain lol...it's always someone else that needs to be blamed!!
