It has been recommended by several members several times on this board that it is always wise to remain silent in case of any involvement or an arrest by an LE in this hobby and have a lawyer represent you. But it looks like to find a lawyer after you are arrested would be too late. I am not sure if it is wise to tell a lawyer, for the purpose of retaining him, that you are going to be involved in an illegal activity. I am considering retaining a lawyer but I do not know how to approach him or what to tell him. Please help. Thanks.
You don't have to tell him anything other than you are and adult living in an overly litigious society and you want a good attorney that you can call on if you ever have the need. You do not need to keep him on retainer, just keep his number in your wallet.
You just tell them the truth, which is that you are working as an escort, and offer your time in exchange for money; but that you feel it is necessary to have them on retainer in case of any possible misunderstandings that could arrise from those circumstances.
Be sure the attorney is someone with experience in these types of cases. If you can't get a reference from someone you know in the escort business, then contact the local bar association and ask them for a reference using the same description as above.
Good luck.
(still not a lawyer)
But I think TomD1 might be a guy...
In which case he may also be an escort, but I have a hunch he was working the other angle....
you might have to put money down manybe a couple hundred
You never know in this new modern a go-go world.
But the same idea holds.
Tell the lawyer that you like to see women who are escorts for companionship and fear that some policeman may mistake the situation and wonder if you are instead doing something illegal, so you would like to have him on retainer.
Thanks for all the help. I am sorry I did not make it clear; I am a guy and a hobbyist. I wonder if someone responds to an ad from an escort which implies some erotic favors (like most of the ads or websites do) for money and the LE uses it as evidence, what can a lawyer can do to defend that person. Even your own lawyer would not be convinced about your innocence in such activities.
That is how most defendents end up in the can.
He will also know how to pull the strings (If he is seasoned and knows the ropes.) to get you off with the least amount of damage to you legally or otherwise.
In short, a good lawyer is a fixer. They make problems go away.
His opinion as to your innocence or lack there of is entirely irrelevent.

Thank you so much mrfisher for sharing your thoughts and helping others who are not so knowledgeable. I have read your comments in several places; you are a big asset to this board.
(You might want to consider getting a more masculine sounding handle. 8o)
This is very true. Outside of properly identifying yourself, there is no information you MUST give the police. Anything else you say will only get you in deeper & a has often been said, NO ONE HAS EVER TALKED THEIR WAY OUT OF BEING ARRESTED.
So STFU (Shut The Fuck Up). Ask if you are under arrest & if not LEAVE. If YES, ask for a lawyer.
The lawyer will get you released & find out what evidence they really have. The more you give them, the more they have to work with. Based on what the police actually have, his job is to minimize the damage.

Please clarify "ask for a lawyer." Can a weathy hobbyist really default to a public defender if he has no attorny on retainer? Maybe so but I don't think so. From what I've read here, the best & least expensive tactic is to answer no questions, say you need to speak to an attorney, bail out, and get an attorney. However that wouldn't work if you are under arrest and in lockup. I suppose then you'd have to stew in jail before your bail hearing. This all confuses me too. I live in WI, if that matters.
I think you can do your research and just have one or two lawyers in mind to call IF you ever need one. If your ever arrested, and the cops try to questions you, your lawyer is simply going to say, I'm sorry, my client wont be answering any questions at this time - you can do that yourself and then hire the lawyer after you bond out.
OK I did just what you want to do. I had a friend who had a friend who was an attorney. I went to him and told him that in the future I might be arrested for prostitution and he gave me a quote for 750.00. I retained him I hired him. I paid him in advance for his service.
I got busted and he gave me extremely bad advice. He told me to cooperate with them.
But to lie about the prostituion. Basically I was given counterfeit money and tried to spend it.
It was a nightmare. He wouldn't answer my calls I lost my money. I ended up with a petty theft conviction as the judge was POed and made the DA provide a deal. He was a hanging judge and I didn't want to chance loosing.
NOW I found a good criminal attorney and I taold him the type of things I might get arrested for. He went over a few key things with me.
1 be polite
2 tell them I want to talk to my attorney
3 do not say another word. Because he could work around what I didn't say. But was tuck with what I did say. If it were a lie. I am a liar and NOTHING I might say can be believed. If it were true it will be used against me.
that was so true.
when I was arrested... They were all over the fact that I had two phones. They were all over the fact that I had a checking account. Every little thing about me they accused me of.
re reread this sentence.
EVERY LITTLE THING ABOUT ME THEY ACCUSED ME OF.
Ok so
cops: YOU HAVE A CHECKING ACCOUNT!
me: yes, what is wrong with that
copS: YOU HAVE TWO PHONES
me: yes and what is wrong with that
cops:---------- what I am trying to say is they accused me of nothing but all of everything they said was an accusation. but there is NOTHING WRONG WITH HAVING A CHECKING ACCOUNT. I stood accused.
YOUR LAWYER SHOULD BE YOUR BEST FRIEND.
HE CAN CHECK FOR WARRANTS AND ADVISE YOU TO GET RID OF THINGS THAT MIGHT BE EVIDENCE.
