Neighbor complaints are not always "busy bodies". We had a worker in our apt building who got ran out on a rail because her clientele was often loud and confrontational - the blasting rap music at 120 dB as they arrive and leave, etc. That issues probably could have been avoided if she had directed them to park on the commercial zoned street a block away.
Too many knocks on the door, too many men saying "Hi sexy," or "You're even prettier than your pictures" in too loud of a voice- and on and on.

it is a good idea to be prepared but weapons such as pepper spray, pistols, clubs, daggers, and variations will not ward off a heat seeking missile from a dedicated terrorist (aka rapist or robber).
