A thread on the GD board has me wondering
How can CNBC use/show providers websites with out their permission. Does it violate any copyright laws?

They didn't steal any text.  They are simply showing something that the world has access too.

This is good lesson:  DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET you do not want seen by all.  This is why ladies blur their faces.  This is why guys should not reveal any thing that compromises a lady's safety.  Like location, hotels, real civie identity or personal data...
My first date made it plain that I could review our meeting but please do not reveal information that she would not put on her web site.

It is INTENDED for public viewing....

It is a website. Once it is uploaded it is in fact legally available for public viewing.  What else should I have said?

um...it's an honest mistake...meant to be forgiven!!! Just0529 [email protected]

In this case since it is associated with a news report it will likely fall under the fair use exemption in copyright law.

If a porn site were to hotlink to the photos on your site, that would likely be a violation of copyright law.

Making a copyrighted work available for public viewing does not eliminate the copyright.  There are a series of tests associated with determining if "fair use" applies.  I'm not a copyright attorney (or any other type) but I think Google is still battling these issues on the Internet.

Google is fighting it out with AP over making AP copyright stories available without paying...  when hardpressed NEWSPAPERS have to Pay.  Some papers have stopped running AP stories, others restricted them like sports only.

I don;t think they can broadcast it.It would be like bootlegging movies online or stealing a porn vid from another site.If the owner of the footage finds out they can have you remove it.When I do a porn movie I have to sign away my model rights to the footage. They do not own footage rights of the pics so they can not broadcast it without permission from the owner. It's copyrite infringment.Just because pics online can be seen by all does not mean they can be used by anyone.Although they might be able to show the wording.
