late at night but did not leave a message. This is very odd as providers or agencies don't usually call. So my question is ...is it possible she got busted by LE and LE is calling all numbers on her cell phone? If yes am I at risk of getting prosecuted, just because my cell phone number was on her address book?

Yes to the first question, and no to the second.

They might be calling numbers, depends on policy.  Most won't as it might be entrapment if they instigate a call, I don't know.

And it might just have been a random wrong number,  it happens.  Along that line they can't prosecute you based on a phone number for the reason above.

IMHO,
TS Jamie

Thanks Jamie for your feedback. Just getting caught is bad :( even if you are not convicted. Keeping my fingers crossed.

It's not a crime for your  number to be on an agency's phone list, but it is information that the police could use to set up a sting in order to catch you in the act.

Such a sting would not be entrapment, so this is not the reason the police are unlikely to bother.  The time, money and effort they would have to devote to the task are strong disincentives, but police still do such things from time to time in order to prevent hobbyists from becoming complacent.

I guess I'll not use the agency again. Had used a long time back (i think it was 8 months ago for the first time). then on an off. I now recollect how easy it was to get an appointment...so i am sure it must be easy for them to get busted. They have lot of reviews on TER so that's what prompted me to use them.
I think its best to avoid. Not sure that they got busted, may be business was slow so she must trying to get old customers with discounts...

but why risk. they fact that they call is indiscreet.

Possible scenarios:

- Agency owner misdialed and hung up.

- Agency owner got busted and the cops are trolling for talkative volunteers to help them make their case (there are always 1 or 2 who'll just talk)

- Agency owner is an idiot and will not be in the agency biz for much longer.

If it is the police and they do get to talk to u, in my non-expert opinion I would think the important thing is not to lie.  Instead, take 5th or tell them will not respond without lawyer or something like that.  Ask Scooter Libby.

Some agency owners follow up to ask how the girl was.  Quality control I guess.  I think it a bad practice.

Caller ID can be spoofed. I.e. a person can call anybody and have the phone number that shows up be anybody else. This doesn't require special equipment on the caller's part. You dial a bridging service, enter your account info, enter the destination phone number and the caller ID that you would like displayed.

So, when receiving calls and the caller id says it is your ATF or a fellow hobbiest; don't assume it really is.

Am I too paranoid? Possibly :-)
