On two occasions in the past few years I've received phone calls from what I am sure is LE setting up a sting.

The woman introduces herself by her first name, and says "she hears I like to have a good time". I've never met anyone by her name, in any context.  

Another time the woman (a different woman, and months, even a year later) calls and offers to see me, says she has a house and I can enter through the garage like I did with her friend. No such meeting in the past occurred.  

I do not hobby often, maybe once or twice a year, if that frequently. I had an ATF that was well-reviewed and felt no need for variety for its own sake. I do use a special email for the hobby, and only inquire about well-reviewed providers, reviewed by well-known hobbyists. I am leery of hotels, and would be reluctant to see any provider at a hotel. I do not exchange phone numbers until getting closer to actually meeting.

In both cases I told the woman did not know what she was referring to, and not to call me again. Neither has.

My suspicion is someone I had seen in the past was arrested, and her phone records put into a database to try and bait hobbyists.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

and I do see a LOT of women, we are talking literally thousands. So either I am VERY, VERY lucky, or you are incredibly unlucky.

I thought it was strange. I never heard from either "provider" again once I told them not to call again.

The second caller, about six months ago, left a discrete voice message. I usually do not answer unknown numbers. When she called later that same day I answered. She claimed her girlfriend met me, and described me to her. I asked what I looked like. She was hesitant to respond, and she wasn't even close.

If it was LE, it seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through for a single bust.  

Perhaps a provider I saw before I upgraded to first-class gave my number to a colleague, or one of them was in a crew.

I just delete them without even opening them.

I think it is a mistake to even return the phone calls.  I would just ignore them.

Quality gals never contact a client that way.

I think you handled this correctly, or at least acceptably.  The other alternative would be not to pick up at all.  It's curious that you checked your messages when these calls were fresh.  Was this a hobby phone?   This is why you need a hobby phone.  (A $10 phone & $80 for a year's service...  and no tracks to your real phone.)
You could run the phone numbers through TER and Google but frankly I'd never respond to a cold call.  It might even be trouble like the site that outs clients after tricking them on dating sites & such.  

Are you married?  It might be an attempt to catch you?

Part of the basic research is checking the reviews of providers we might like to meet.  With a cold call, you would be totally going in blind.  Not in this day & age.

I am single; there is nothing to 'catch' me at personally. I do not use a hobby phone - I do not hobby often - but perhaps I should. My search is limited to well-reviewed providers whose first contact is email (I do use a special email account) and who screen thoroughly. Once I saw a provider with only one (1) review, but she was a friend of and recommended by an ATF, and this was an exception.    

I'm not into the thrill of TOFTT. My preference is connecting with a regular (or two, maybe three)

I do use separate email accounts, but will look into a burner phone the next time the need arises.

I'm seeing trac fones for just $10, a 90 day minutes card (you'll never use all the minutes) is $20 so $90 a year.   It is cheap protection.  I used my regular phone when I started...  until I realized the tracks I was leaving.  Never again.  
If you keep the plan up the minutes roll over, but lose them if it expires.  Also gals sometimes remember guys by their phone numbers.  I thought it prudent to ditch my phone 2 years ago 7 start over.  I emailed my old & new numbers to my favs.

scroll down this board & find the guys who have been outted on the scdam site "Exposing Johns" or the ones who've been blackmailed.   I'm not bullet proof.  Scams are more viscious than ever

Most likely scenario is someone is suspicious and calling your phone with a bluff to see if you will take the bait.

I am not married, nor is there an SO. I agree, its unlikely to be LE. Cold calling would return a very low bust rate.  It's easier to set up motel or hotel stings.  I suspect a provider I saw gave the number to a fellow provider.

I'm not worried. Neither called again after being asked not to.
