The charge is not 'soliciting a prostitute.'  Generally the charge is 'solicitatION for prostitution.'  Any offer of money for sex is a violation regardless of who you solicit.

I have read about LE sting operations posting fake ads on CL and BP to lure clients into hotel rooms. A two part question.

1. Does anyone know of LE posting fake ads on EROS or even on TER or other escort review sites as part of sting operations? I am especially interested in everyones take on the possibility that some ads on EROS are LE.

2. Do you have a better chance not getting caught in a sting operation if you only deal with outcall (and yes I know the obvious, do your home work and work with well reviewed ladies). I realize you could get stung in an outcall situation as well but are the chances less than with walking into an incall?

And yes I know all the basics, no talk about sex, money and all that. Not that any of that will help if LE is already in the room.

The ads can be real - as in, generated by an escort and not the cops. The cops can use the girl to get you.  Say they arrest an escort and they set her free on condition that she will be their mole to catch a couple of johns.  Could happen that way.

1. I have never heard a rumor that cops had posted fake ads on TER or Eros.  However, LE *does* monitor both sites in many cities.

2. It is very unlikely that the cops would do a sting operation that involved outcall.  It takes a lot of time and effort to set something like that up.  Furthermore, it's much harder for the police to control the situation and the location when they're coming to you.

FWIW, probably the safest scenario to avoid a sting is to have outcall to your home.  Unless you were already under investigation by LE, they probably would never get the warrants needed to enter your home.  Even if they were using a real escort who was cooperating with them, any evidence or arrest would probably be thrown out unless they had a warrant.  And LE would probably NEVER send someone into that situation anyway - the "john" could have a gun, or use a knife to take whoever they sent in hostage, or whatever - the police would be extremely unlikely to take the risk.

Of course if you're married or have a family, or live with your SO, you probably shouldn't have an escort come to your home..  And I wouldn't recommend it regardless unless you knew the escort very well...

I concur with everything Mr French said other than the need for a warrant for the callgirl or female LE to enter your home.  None is required as you are inviting her in! However, yes, it is unlikely that female LE will go anyplace where she does not have immediate back-up and a private home is full of weapons ranging from kitchen knives to (potentially) elephant guns!

And yes, the amount of effort to make an individual misdemeanor arrest makes LE pretending to be an outcall provider going to a hotel room highly unlikely. She would have to be wired and her back-up standing by in the hallway with a passkey ready to enter to assist her.

I believe you can shave the odds on that one a bit more if you have the provider meet you in a hotel bar for a drink before going to your room.  This allows you to monitor the situation and walk away if thing don't seem right.  For instance if she starts pushing you towards a proposition with some kind of  questions like 'so what do you want for your money?' - then its time to look shocked, tell her she has misunderstood you, and WALK AWAY.  Also you should be able to see if her partner(s) are following you as you head for the elevator and your room.  Again, LE isn't going anywhere without back up.

Its just mind boggling that LE would take the time and resources to work stings like this.  Three officers would have time to make only two or three busts in an eight hour shift at best. But you never know.  Stranger things have happened.

I have a question for this subkject and it's so simple I'm sure it's been discussed ad nauseum already but...say a female LE officer poses as a prostitute and arrests you for "soliciting a prostitute." But, she isn't a prostitute! She's a cop posing as one. Could I get away with saying I was just posing as a customer? Is it just semantics? No letter of the law?

I get it, thanks mvr.

having LE post on Eros and TER has happened.
There was a big operation in florida years ago, i don't remember all the details, but it was all over the news. Part of the tactics was posting ads and setting appointments.
Probably incall. The time and expense of setting outcall appointments makes it less likely.
