a retainer is money deposited with a lawyer so that he can be prepared to act on you behalf should you need his help. Most attorneys will act without the need for a large retainer if they have met you and feel you are legit in your request. In that case they will bill you for actions they take on your behalf. Some attorneys will hold money on you behalf to serve as bail money should you need that service and bill you for the service No one works for free and cash is the currency rather then sexual favors unless you get real lucky. Be carefull of an agressive atorney as they can cost you more in unneeded actions. What you want is an experienced  attorney, often an ex-cop who is still awake in his law practice and knows everyone in the town he practices in.

The best thing to do is SAVE money on your own. you never know what may happen. Also, If you are doing everything right and screening, you should have NO problems. Trust your gutt not your bills.. :)

if not necessarily have him on retainer.  There are some good videos about "getting busted"...  having a contingency plan:  1 phone call.  Back up person opens the sealed envcolupe.  Who picks up your kids, feeds the dog, puts the cat out.  Arranges bail if necessary.

A series of pieces at the site listed http:   //redlightchicago.wordpress. com   Look at the Emergency Response Worksheet...

a very good idea, and having explicit instructions for them in what to do in case of a worst case scenario (which can also include the handling of personal and business information). It is better to have an attorney you've had the chance to interview, and know what their charges are, on retainer than to fall into a situation where you need one and get stuck with one that knows you're in a bind and you have to pay what they charge.

P.S.
It's a good idea to password protect your phone, so your personal information can't be 'accidentally' perused if it's ever out of your hands...

Of course I screen and I did found an great attorney to put on retainer.

Viv :Screeing can not protect you from other peoples mistakes.

What I mean by that is one can do their best to screen to a T, and follow all one's procedures and rules but if another individual wasnt so careful and that could effect you as well.
So you have to protect yourself from other people's mistakes
