What's the point of a disclaimer on a web page?

To me its just seems defensive-if you are not doing anything "wrong" or "illegal" then why does it need to be said? Has that EVER helped a girl who had a LE issue? I don't have a webpage and may never but if I did or ever decide to get one, I don't think I would put up such nonsense... if anything, I think it would be used AGAINST me if an issue with LE ever arose...If I am wrong please someone in the know please fill me in...

Your assumptions are correct. These so-called admonitions and disclaimers do not render the site legal or otherwise provide any immunity from prosecution.

The various disclaimers on their websites did nothing to help the ladies involved in Operation Flea Collar in Tampa.

Plain and simple, the "money is for time and companionship only" line is not going to keep a lady out of hot water if LE sets their sights on her.  Worse, some providers state that by entering their website, one is attesting that they are not LE.  That's pretty much like a signed confession that they are doing something illegal.

...or at least helpful in a defense, to a charge of "offering to engage in" or "soliciting" an act of prostitution.  Depending how explicit the web advertisement is in describing the charms and services of the lady in question, she might be open to a charge of soliciting.  This would also depend on the exact wording of state's statute defining soliciting.

If the rest of your website doesn't constitute "solicitation" under statutes in various states, I'm not sure how having such legal disclaimer would hurt.  The court is going to look at the substance, including evidence of actual activities.  If LE's case is solely based on the contents of the website, and not on any observations made outside, I would think that having such disclaimer would make all the difference in the world (again, depending on whether the rest of the content overwhelms the disclaimer).

Previously I saw a lawyer reply on this board that talked about the uselessness of disclaimers. It seems that the majority of girls have them. NOTHING can protect you from being arrested for prostitution if you are in the adult biz (even if you claim to be a dancer, escort, massuese, companion, don't do this, don't do that). On the other hand, they may be able to arrest you, but it is more difficult to convict you. Most girls break under pressure and talk, my advice is to have an attorney on retainer or get some good legal advice. Also, keep your wits about you and only share information like name, address, phone number, besides that KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!!!!!!!!!
