Generally no. This is a myth created by television and the media. Indeed, the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear and decide a case in which the Solicitor General (The President's lawyer) is asking the Court to rule that the police are not Constitutionally required to give a person who has been taken into custody a Miranda warning. If you care about our Constitutional rights, these are very scary times.

I urge all providers to make certain they know for certain that they are not dealing with LE before doing or saying anything that could lead to their arrest for prostitution, solicitation or other similar crimes. I got squeezed once, tape was inaudible and the comment questionable, (worked for agency then so negotiating for tip was necessary) so I was let go.  Never took any clothes off.  But I did ask the guy if he was LE and he said "no", then they told me they could lie.  Don't know if it is true, but they did tell me this.  This was in AZ.

Police has no obligation to tell you the truth during the investigative stage (or even during interrogation after arrest -- provided you have waived your Miranda rights).  Many drug operations are busted by undercover agents or informants.  Do you think the undercover agent or the informant answers the question truthfully when asked "are you a cop or working with the cop?"  Umm, damn, you got me, yes.  Bang!  You are dead.
