1st thing is consider whether you're gonna be in a WA or OR court - makes all the difference in the world.
Then you can do some scouting, by checking the county bar referrals, which sometimes offer free consults; check the state bar online, for disciplinary records, etc.
You shouldn't be looking for an AGGRESSIVE family law attorney, you should be looking for a SMART one; and the 1st thing a SMART one does is figure out - or help you figure out - exactly what you want, and what you can reasonably get. And smart lawyers stay the hell away from vengeful clients.
There are 2 things at issue in family court, 1st property, and 2nd child custody. Any fairly smart lawyer knows there's no sense arguing over the property, it divides fairly easily - unless people are hiding things, as they sometimes do.
And smart lawyers know that wrangling over kids doesn't accomplish anything either.
The best thing you can do in family court is leave ASAP. Been there, done that, worn out the T-shirt.
