Can LE print your information even though you weren't arrested/cited?

Background: Was at an AMP in LA when the police decided to show up.  They didn't catch me in the act, but I imagine they did walk in on a few people.  They took drivers licenses and said that they would be printing the information in the local paper.

Now the thing is, NO ONE was arrested or cited, so are they allowed to do that?  I think it's more of a scare tactic than anything.

and by that I mean an establishment that is not someone's home, they can print only that you were a person at that establishment.  If arrests are made (and you say none were here), then they have to distinguish you as someone who was not arrested.

Would be interested to hear where you are from.  Big cities rarely give a crap unless its a big bust.  Smaller venues, however, have nothing better to write about and this stuff could come out.

No arrests, just taking down drivers license info. and a "group photo".  It didn't make sense to me that the pictures wouldn't be individual "mug shots".  Who wants to see a bunch of mongers sitting on a bench together?

I'm not sure I agree, Ricky.  If no crime is being committed, and they had no probable cause to believe it was, then what was their basis for even gathering names?  I think that the release of names by a police agency implies wrongdoing, and they can't imply wrongdoing without a proper basis.  I haven't researched it, but that's my guy reaction.

there is no expectation of privacy.  How many times have rap parties gone awry and the news exposes that "Rap Star X" was there.  He may have done nothing wrong, but yet its out in the open.

Le cannot print anything becuase they don't print newspapers. If they give this information to a newspaper with the request that it be printed then the papers editor would have to make a decision about posting a persons name. I doubt that it would happen unless the person had been arrested or cited. Don't forget that you were at a legal establishment that pays business fees to the city.

Read your civil and constitutional rights, nobody has the right to reveal your personal information to any one. If that is the case, that's a violation of your privacy, which where you have every right to pursue a law suit. Check these websites out for more info....
