Feds bust prostitution ring that used Oakland, Macomb bowling alleys as meeting spots

By Mitch Hotts
Daily Tribune Staff Writer

Bowling alleys in southern Oakland and Macomb counties were used by an online escort service that provided customers with goodie bags containing sex coupons, chocolate and female underwear, according to federal prosecutors.

Three men have been named in federal indictments accusing them of setting up events where male customers could engage in “meet-and-greet” prostitutes who would then take them to hotels for sex for cash.

xxx, yyy and zzz are charged with creating websites to lure customers to the sex parties, according to a complaint unsealed in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

According to federal prosecutors, one of the meet-and-greets took place on May 5 at Royal Lanes on Dequindre near Toepfer in Warren and Fairlane Bowl on Stephenson Highway in Madison Heights.

The suspects allegedly set up escort-themed websites advertising the events. Investigators said the events drew up to 100 men at a time.

A cover charge of $20 at the door allowed guests inside to meet up 72 prostitutes -- or “service providers” -- for the purposes of later having sex. The prostitutes were expected to give “donations” to the organizers of between $100 and $1,000 for the events.

At the meet-and-greets, court documents allege, customers would receive gift bags that contained chocolate candy, tickets and underwear.

According to the complaint, a gold ticket was good for one free one-hour session with a call girl, while a black or green ticket could be used for a free 30-minute appointment.

Women involved in the events had names like “ppp” and “zzzz,” the FBI said in the documents.

FBI agents were alerted to the operation by the mother of a 17-year-old escort who sent an email to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office claiming her daughter was lured to the operation by promises of money and drugs in exchange for sexual favors.

The mother provided information because she feared for her daughter’s life and was concerned other women would become involved, according to the message contained in court records.

Over the course of three years, federal investigators used confidential informants, an electronic paper trail and PayPal records to build a case against the suspects.

Federal agents say in court records that the suspects planned to expand the service to Toledo, Kalamazoo and Fort Wayne, Ind.

The defendants, whose residences and ages were not listed in the court file, were arraigned Thursday.

xxx, the alleged ringleader, is temporarily being detained pending a detention hearing, scheduled for Nov. 14. yyy and zzzz were both released on $10,000 personal bond each. They are both due back in court on Nov. 13. They were ordered not to use computers or the Internet while charges are pending.

The case was investigated by the Violent Crime Squad in the Detroit division of the FBI, which includes officers and agents from the FBI, Detroit police, Roseville police, Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Michigan State Police.

BTW, why did you edit the names out?  The article is easily available on the internet.

It is not an agency. It is The board owners. The news doesn't get everything right.

The board owners would have M&G parties once every 4-8 weeks for people to get acquainted. There was no "Agency" arranging anything. It it was all Indy girls (except for a couple agencies that did advertise on the board). There was never (suppose) to be talk of anything hobby related at these parties.

However some stopped going because they felt things were getting to be a little to "loud" and the influx of lower end girls created a trashy scene they didn't want to be part of. Like it really looks normal to have barely legals to mid 20's showing more skin then some strippers hanging on and making out with men in there 50's.......

All they had to do was prove a link between money and services to make the bust. It took 4 years for them to finally get what they needed to charge for an incident that may or may not have taken place with a minor.

Thanks for bringing those points out about the rules of MnG functions. Now we know why there are so many rules and why there is screening.

It is interesting that Feds would spend all that time to do an investigation. I remember there was a hobby board down in Texas that got shutdown because of stuff going on at MnG, drugs at the party etc.

Why contribute to LE's power to punish the innocent through public shaming just because the press chooses to?

In this case you can correlate the quote below to the hype surrounding what has been reported with the Michigan boards.  I'm not falling into the boat of "these bad people", they are the same as you and I and with the exception of one, were responsible board owners.  Unfortunately some of the actions of a few brought unwanted attention to all.  I don't like that it's made to look like these people are handing out drug laden candies to the poor young girls of Detroit in order to coerce them into something they didn't want to do.  People are blaming substances and others for what they have done themselves.

Hysteria is right. They're trying to equate all prostitutions & escorts with sex slaves/trafficking

This is how they distort reality to get people worked up.
You tie the thing you want to vilify, like prostitution, to something else that's so egregious that everyone can agree it's bad- like sex slaves.  The objective, of course, is to short-circuit rational discussion and create the impression in people's mind that prostitution equals sex slavery.  We can all agree sex slavery and human trafficking is terrible, therefore, all prostitution must be eliminated.

For those who haven't been paying attention, the same tactics have been used more and more lately by groups advocating extreme positions.  A few that come to mind are the abortion rights debate, gun ownership rights in the ongoing battle against the Second Amendment, and by those promoting the global warming agenda.  It's become impossible to have a rational conversation about any of these subjects- and that's exactly the point.  They want you to react, not think.

It's the oldest trick in the book and people keep falling for it because they're easily manipulated and lack critical thinking ability.  Fortunately, most of the people on TER see right through this sort of crap.
