If you don't have the $ for a lawyer,You can contact legal aid at this link.

Does anybody have experience dealing with LE in Montgomery County, MD?  I answered an ad on craigslist and got robbed.  I reported it as a straight robbery, when I was going to visit a friend.  Now they are investigating and want to question me about the details.  Will I be in trouble if I admit what really happened?  Any advice?  Anybody I should talk to first?

I'm not a lawyer, but I do know that it is a serious offence to lie to the police. From what you've said, you could now be in a pretty sticky situation. I'm sorry that I can't be of more help, but I would strongly suggest that you contact an attorney immediately.

Thank you.  I'll try it.

Can any Maryland providers recommend a good lawyer?

I have no idea what you lost...  wallet, credit cards, cash, phone?  Hopefully you were not physically injured.

In the future:
ONLY carry a hobby phone.
Carry the donation, pocket money & id only if meeting a new date.

I wonder if you did not meet further with investigators if the matter would get dropped?

If you must discuss further (or face charges for filing a false Police report) you'd best get representation.  The investigators might see things your way or they might bust yer balls without representation.

Best of Luck.

... the only time to get really concerned when being interviewed by the police is if they read you your rights and anytime they DO, its time to invoke them, STFU and demand a lawyer.

In your case this may not apply.  In my non-lawyer mind, you initiated a police investigation by filing a police report, they are simply following up on an action you initiated.  If, in the course of normal investigation of your report, they interview you and discover that you put down false information on your initial report, it is POSSIBLE you could be charge with a crime.

There would be an issue here of possible hair-splitting between the difference in putting down false information and omitting information.  This is why you MUST either drop the thing now or get an attorney.

Martha Stewart's lawyer also told her to go talk with the FBI by herself, realy stupid.  She got convicted of obstruction.
