Your idea of having someone to contact is excellent, most local attorneys can help but an expert certainly is great if you can find one. As for providers, COYOTE LA, and its affiliates appears to do a good job helping them legally and is active politically to better their situation, they also do follow up to aid those who are incarcerated.

I found my own attorney through a Westlaw search of attorneys who had published opinions relating to our prostitution law.  This is a method I often use for finding local counsel.  This time it worked, and I was very happy with the guy I chose.
I wonder if it would be useful to develop a list for hobbyists and providers to look at when choosing their own attorneys?  I wouldn't promote it as a recommendation list, just exactly what I described above.  It could also include suggestions from other hobbyists/providers.
Your thoughts?  It amazes me that so many participants do not have attorneys.

There certainly are a good number who post on the web and claim that expertise. Of course an attorney must be in the state that you want to have representation; stupidly we do not have a national Bar exam so one must travel to different states to be certified to practice there, few do. Why exactly this strange system? Probably to insure the incomes of locals. In any event if you and others want to compile a list or pm me I would be pleased to put it together as a reference source. What think the rest of our readers? If those who have had good experiences with a local attorney wish to forward name I will compile and keep on file to be available by email to those requesting or post it occasionally provided there are no objections by the listed.

A friend of mine has never had any trouble, but she has occasionally said that she wished she knew a reliable name or even had such a person on retainer "just in case." We have researched as best we can online, but have not found anyone even claiming to have expertise in this area of the law. It would be great to have a place to go to look for someone local with the right background.

Love to have one on retainer! Of course none of us ever plan on getting caught. I asked a friend of mine who is a T/V attorney if s/he could ask around discretely for one who was experienced with hobbyists.
