My attorney has told me not to take my fee directly from my client, instead have him put it on a dresser or table. This is not a problem for me. The problem is that I also accept credit cards and I take the card from the gentleman's hand. How is this different from cash, if at all?
I have also been told that putting the fee in an envelope and writing the word gift on it really doesn't make a difference. Is this true?
just kidding, yes this is an old idea and it would give the attorney an argument that you did not accept the funds and therefore there was no pay for sex contract affirmed by collection, but recent cases are kicking these old ideas out of court because this is a trick or a sham and the judge, the jury, the dresser and all of us know that it does not matter where your client sticks it, it is still sex for money unless he fails to stick it (then you might have an argument for companionship)...as for the credit card deal, that blows the dresser concept to hell as what are you going to claim you accepted money for? are you running a furniture store? did you sell him the dresser? in any event best not to give any client a receipt where you specify what sexual service you performed and how much each act costs, or the other hand it might be good advertising and you might end up with some new clients from the jury pool....up until now I have heard of threesomes with a stripper included, but not a dresser, ah well you learn something new every day....

it's too much! AS LB said, envelope razzle dazzle will not keep you out of jail. Keep your attorney's number in your speed dial and call him if you get busted. Whatever advice he gives you about how to conduct your business is probably useless. Screen well, be smart, don't be greedy and trust your gut.
No one wants a paper trail for something like this.
By the way, ask your lawyer if he has ever gotten a client out of a prostitution rap using the arguments he advanced. It would be interesting to know.
Of course, even if you win a case, you have still lost. Between getting busted and dragged downtown, having to go to court and pay your lawyer, a not guilty finding is cold comfort.
