Can you usually pay for bail bonds with your own credit card? If so, after payment, can you be released to take a taxi home, or does someone need to come pick you up?

The police have been active in my city, so, preparing for the worst, I'd like to be as discreet as possible--pay my own way out if arrested, without having to involve any family or friends.

I've never been arrested, nor have I ever had to bail anybody out of jail, but to my knowledge credit cards are not accepted for bond.  I can't say for sure whether LE will take them (I doubt it), but I do know several bondsmen and NONE of them will accept credit cards or checks.  They operate on a cash basis, which makes the ugliest kind of sense.

It might not be a bad idea to have at least one friend you can bother with this kind of stuff.  You should probably have a friend anyway, just for security purposes, who knows where you are (and perhaps who you're with), whenever you're on the job.

I know: that's easier said than done, if you don't want your existing friends to know about this one part of your life.  Well, if not a real friend, then maybe you could at least get an understanding ally.  Perhaps someone else who is also in the biz?  You're probably not the only lady who could benefit from some sort of mutual-support arrangement.  Just an idea.

can bail yourself out, but you may be required to use real estate as collateral. I know because I have done both (in California). The amount of payment is 10% of the bail amount (e.g. if bail is set at $50,000., then you have to pay the bailbonds man $5,000).  Usually, the bailbonds man can give you a ride home since he has to come down to the jail for you to sign the papers.  You can call a taxi if you wish, if you have any money left

no, you cant bail yourself ! you pay someone( the bailman )- using your credit card or whatever you have- to sign the papers and bail you out, but you cannot sign the papers to bail yourself out !

The bailman does take 10% of the bail from you, that's it, you don't pay him anything else, but if you don't show up in court, he's screwed, he will lose his money.

collateral that will cover their potential loss (usually real estate, maybe the pink slip to your car, etc.).  They are not stupid.  Of course you can't bail yourself out--you need the bail bond guy to act as the middle man, to submit the proper papers, but you don't need  anyone else (friend, attorney) there.  You just call the guy from the holding cell (collect).
