I live on a corner lot and have a very secure fence (6 ft cedar) I built this soon after buying my house becuz the neighbor 2 doors down had a female pit he let run loose and she was intent on fighting my dogs. My dogs are varying sizes and happy to meet the challenge. ... unfortunately.
I thought things were fine till she broke out part of my gate and got her head stuck. It was a bloody mess and if I hadn't been home would have been so much worse.
Well the dog disappeared and I thought the prob was solved.
Now the neighbor has 2 pit puppies. about 5-6mo's old and they are out and about and trying to fight my dogs. Very aggressively. I took my hose and sprayed them over the fence and they moved to the alley and broke up two cedar slats.
I wrangled my dogs inside and put up a baby gate so they had to stay in the house and these puppies ran onto my porch and were trying to get my dogs thu my front windows.
My house was built in 1920 and the windows are pencil thin one plate things and easily shatter.
I spoke to the owner this morning and 2 other concerned neighbors went with me and the guy obviously doesn't give a rats ass.
I learned from the neighbors that the first female was taken by the city after she finally bite someone.
I'm freaked out I don't have alot of money to secure my fence any further. I'm not sure what I can do but I'm going to try something..Any advice here I'd appreciate.
I don't have alot of money for vet bills either. and I don't know what will happen when they finally come around to fight when I am not home.
I'm going to make some phone calls to the city today. These dogs are actively damaging my property and since they are so tiny and so aggressive I am very worried about what will happen when they are adults.
Any advice is appreciated. I'd think it nothing else I could file some complaint about the damage to my property with some authority.
I live in Dallas.
1) File a complaint
2) Sue for damages in the Small Claims court (you can do this yourself)
3) Put Lien on his property. It is called Fi FA you can do this once you get a judgement from the small claims court.
'
All of this you can do yourself without a lawyer.
Being nice and reasonable doesn't work with ass holes.
The dogs need to realize YOU are the alpha. Should they get into your property, like the head, use Halt on the animal. Spray it straight into their eyes. Won't hurt them, but WILL burn like mace. Also paints the dog Orange so everyone knows the animal was sprayed. Post office workers carry it. I've seen it at many stores.
Dogs this aggressive may not be deterred by water. You may need to use ammonia in a water bottle.
You can also get Bitter Apple (though I wish you could still get the Cayanne pepper mix) and spray it on the fence. Their side. So they don't want to chew on it.
Once the dogs are on YOUR property, you have many more options. Talk with the local prosecuting attorney for exact legalities. But if they are 1/2 as aggressive as you describe them, I suspect you may be concerned for YOURSELF as well. As much of an animal lover as I am, I would defend myself.
If others in the neighborhood will stand with you, you have more options for the legal folks. Esp given the documented history of their mother.
Remember, there are not bad dogs, only bad owners.
hth.
fix your fence, you probably can't afford to take the neighbor to small claims court to get the damage repaired...and he will still have the damn dogs anyway. Unfortunately, your neighbor is less intelligent than his stupid pit bulls. Do they not have a leash law in Dallas? If so, call and file a complaint about the free roaming dogs.
You should not have to keep your dogs inside at all times because some moron won't control his.
Maybe my math was wrong 2 Pits + 1 Stupid owner = 3 bullets!!!!!!
We were on the street. My 5 !/2 pound dog on a leash. The daughter came out and left the gate open so there was no warning till I was in front of their house on the sidewalk. One dog took off at us and grabed my dog by the neck and started shaking him. I was screaming and the neighbors ran out as the other dogs where coming at us. When the owner yelled he dropped my dog like a dead piece of meat with both of us in shock.
I grabed him ran in the house and put him in a towel and went to the animal hospital as fast as I could drive. The emergency center did 2 hours of surgery to save his front leg and stitch him up.I brought him home and gave him 24 hour pain medicine for over a week. My vet bills where over a thousand dollars which my neighbor hasn't given me one red cent. I found out after this the same dog attacked another little dog down the street 3 years ago when the gate was left open.
The dogs are still there, the kid who left the gate open is still there and each time animal control visits they don't answer the door. I am in constant fear and still have nightmares.
I am an animal lover and my dog is a 10 year old rescue who was going to be put to sleep. Texas has some really strange laws about protecting your property. You can shoot and ask questions later if you or your property is at risk.
Video what these dogs are doing to your home and then call animal control and let them see this. Let the neighbors all sign a petition to get some attention. If all else fails I think you know what my answer will be.

Haley,
I'm very sorry for your loss. You too should persue your neighbor through the small claims court for vets bills, pain and suffering, etc. Owners are legally responsible for the actions of their pets.
I know that no amount of money will make up for the loss of your pet, but at least your lowlife neighbor will be held accountable for his/her actions. Maybe it will encourage him/her to be more responsible in future and prevent other pet owners from suffering the same heartache.
but, without jeopardizing your safety. The city is a good idea...try to reach animal control unit directly. DOCUMENTATION of the issue is key so you'll have more recourse if it is, unfortunately, necessary.
Now I know where the prick that use to live by me moved to....sounds like he's your "neighbor" now.
Another tip, every time the dog(s) act up...call the cops and get a documentation trail on record.
Then if there is ever a biting incident you'll have the guys ass in court. Too bad you'll probably only be able to have the dog put down and not the owner.
I had this **it happen and it involved small kids. Crazy world....for some people the damn dog has more rights.
Up until late this week I'd have said call Michael Vick...he'd know what to do...but, alas he's probably stuck in Philly.
Good Luck!
or (good news) civilian model Taser. Drops a dog like a bag of dirt, but doesn't kill them. Once Fido rides the lightning he will never return.
Fix your fence... sorry but you are going to have to do it. Check with a farm supply for something called "sheep fence"... very heavy wire mesh that could be stapled (fence staples) inside your fence.
Document the problem dogs, photo's yes. Call animal control every time they are loose. Keep a broom or stick handy to fend them off.
Best Wishes,
skb
I think just about every state/county/city has leash laws these days. If the owner of these dogs doesn't follow the law then he loses the dogs, simple. Call the police every time you see the dogs loose and eventually they will get tired of responding to the damn dogs and take them away from the owner.
I love dogs but can't stand owners who are so irresponsible on how they treat/raise them.
b-
when they went up to the wall. They would try and jump over and bit my boys on their faces. Got sick of this shit, and when I actually saw that old bitch spray MY dogs with a mixture of soapy water because her dogs were try to jump over MY WALL, I told her I have my hammer on the table next to the sliding door. If I EVER see them try to jump over my wall again, I'll smash their fucking skulls in. She freaked, and moved out not long after that.
Now, I don't condone this behavior, but my boys are the closest thing I have to kids. So, you gotta do what you gotta do. Know what I'm sayin'?! ![]()
would make things worse -- because you never know what he would do next.
I think the answer has to be working with the city animal control rules.
Sometimes you have to wonder idiots like him are really that idiot or they're really more of assholes ...
You need to learn the law in your state.
In NY, owners are strictly liable for their dogs.
Dogs are not entitled to one bite.
Owners can be held strictly liable for their dogs actions.
You should consult with a personal injury attorney in your state.
A lot of attorneys give free consultations.
Don't ask us for advice. That would be foolish.
You need to consult an attorney.
I love this board(the posters), fabulous to hear about various topics & can learn a lot.
There are some very good "legal boards" that you can ask questions for free about any legal issue and "licensed attorney" will answer.
You can also "search topics" & many times the same question has already been asked & answered.
I would list some of the exact sites, but not sure if it is allowed or wanted, hence, it is easy to search "legal help boards"
Solution: .357 with shot-shells.
...who had trouble with a neighbor's incessantly barking dog. After trying all legal maneuvers without success, one night he tossed poisoned meat over the fence. No more barking problem.
arrested for violating a court order. After a trip or two to jail with her dogs impounded she will get the picture. If she continues to violate the restraining order the judge will give her some serious jail time.
Go to Philly and get Michael Vick to solve your problems.
You know it really pisses me off to see someone write that crap like that asshole is a hero..wtf?
You are going to send a complete fxxxing moron who abused and tortured animals to do what exactly?
Team up with the other idiot and maybe fight these 6 month old puppies for kicks?
No animal should ever be treated like those poor dogs were but there's always some idiot that thinks it's cool and will pay other idiots to watch.
