Recently, I got a ticket for running a "red light".
In addition, the car that I was driving is registered in a different state, in which I still maintain my residence.
The 2 questions I have are as follows:
1) What's the best way to beat the "red light" violation?
2) I was asked to register my car here in California. I want to maintain my registration of my car for the out-of-California state - as the car is seldom used here. It's used in the other state.
So he's guilty but wants to worm out of it. If you're guilty you're guilty. I said it before and I'll say it again: if you did it, pay the damn ticket. 'Fess up to the crime.
is clear to the human eye but that supposedly causes a "glare" when the red light camera flash goes off as it tries to take your picture - supposedly obfuscates the image to make the license unreadable - don't know if it works, but since red light cameras are coming back in VA, I intend to try it.
I've only gotten one, but I got out of it. I waited until the very last day I had and told them I wanted to contest it. They scheduled a court date several weeks later. I showed up, the cop didn't. After waiting about 40 minutes for the cop to show up, they walked over to me and told me it was dropped.
That's taking a big chance. If he shows up you're probably going to be found guilty and by then the court usually won't grant any kind of a plea deal to lessen the fine or other punishment.
In other words, if you plead guilty or no contest early, you might get a plea deal, reduced fine, no points, something like that. If you push it to trial betting the cop won't show and he does, all deals are usualy off.
I've read about one that beat it. He was driving after midnight, and there were no cars coming from any direction, the cop was parked in a nearby parking lot. He totally blew the stop sign. His argument was, that since the sign was there for public safety, and there was no "public" around except him... then there was no danger. It was quite a few years ago, but I think it happened in Naperville, IL.
Better idea, and less of a waste of time.... pay the ticket.
