Informants pass on knowledge or rumors to LE. Such "information" or "mis-information" may lead to LE attempting to verify the same... with their own sting or investigation. A few really high profile cases have hit the press where LE busted down the wrong doors based solely on informants... not to say it couldn't ever happen (you'd think they would learn) but... This would be a raid & would not be appropriate to a misdemeanor offense. Now if you're dealing drugs or running guns or hiding a 10 most wanted fugitive (felonies), all bets are off!

in my area but I haven't heard if there was any success for the attempt to go after the targeted group. Hopefully they are just fine and the judges refused to indict. Even when LE goes after people it is always up to the judge/ DA to accept the charges. The citizens have frowned on those tactics in MD but I heard that they play dirty and win in VA a few or more years back. In Va I heard cops were getting sessions and then got convictions while MD tried it and the citizens objected. The cases were thrown out but an AMP was shut down. But paid informants is new . I don't know for sure if it's new only that an attempt was made on a target (not me). I guess I can try to do research on the net to see what I find. I need to go out with more attorneys and listen to them. They do like to talk about work. I used to be next to the courthouse-lol.

A certain enforcement agency was going after "someone" according to bragging from this enforcement agency. They were after an escort and used an "paid informant". But it looks like the courts were not interested in prosecuting the ladies. No one has been able to verify any info and I am DEFINITELY not going to be asking about it. That is why they are so desperate to get in the news and in the papers focusing on escorts rather than tracking their sex offenders.
