Just pay the fine. It's your word against the cops. Plus they must have your ad or site they could use. Don't waste your time with a lawyer save your money for the fine. All lawyers are scum.  Just go back to Canada.

If you pay a lawyer..chances are you can get this reduced to something..stay with a public defender..and most likely your record will follow.

Even though you are National..you still could have a record here. Find a good lawyer if you can afford..someone that is professional..and tell them the facts.

I would recommend that you get a good criminal defense attorney. You imply that you are not a citizen of Canada and that you do not have a legal status in the U.S.. It would help if you could state what your citizenship is, since I don't want to assume that you are a U.S. citizen.  
If you are not a U.S. citizen, then this type of offense could have an impact on your ability to travel into the U.S. from Canada, due to our ever changing immigration laws.  If you are not a Citizen, then you also need to obtain a good immigration law attorney or a criminal defense attorney that is very familiar with the legal system.  
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the laws of Illinois, so I am unable to give you any specific information.  Needless to say, in some jurisdictions the officers are allowed to do the deed and then arrest you. A good defense attorney may be able to work out a deal for you, where you do not get a conviction, or the cops may have violated your rights and you may be able to get the case dismissed, by suppressing the evidence.  Good Luck.
