I am living in Long Island , NY .
My car was damaged clearly by another car in the parking lot or my condo complex. My question is  what is a hit and run is it only considered property damage or is it a crime? No one was injured other than my beloved Rocket Ship .I am considering a $1000 reward for anyone coming forward assuming they saw it as my deductable is in fact $1000.What say you guys?:) kendall

called insurance (USAA) and that was it.  Didn't have to file a police report of anything. Since it is no my fault no increase in fees

1. hit and run is what it means, they hit you and ran off
2. Usually if you are not the one at fault in an altercation, it should not increase your rates.
3.In most states a moving accident requires a police report, this may not. Anytime you can avoid an accident report it is too your benefit.
4. If you have a large deductible you are generally not going to be covered below that amount.
5.hit and run is a crime but unless you know who hit you there is little chance that the police will get involved, this ain't CSI material
PS. If this is a rocket shit, I mean ship, well then just just tell the insurance company it was an errant meteorite and ask for Dr. Spock's phone number, them Volcans can figure out just about anything!
PSS. If you have a car of little value, then carry a big deductable and pay less insurance and if you park in a lot or on a street expect the unexpected, also try to park away from other cars on in end spots where you can only get hit on one side, it reduces dents by fifty percent.
PSSS What is the actual damage done? You might consider getting a dent repair kit 30 dollars and some repair fiberglass  20 and spray paint 10 and have some fun and save some money, and forget about it!
