Escorts.com raided? Why?

Time for my monthly visit to the paranoia board, hi everyone.

Post on Chicago board reports RS Duffy, owners of Escorts.com has been raided and shut down. Web site is definitely down. Web search gives no info on this, and I definitely am not going to ask the OP how she knows (best not to know). While the OP does seem to be linking this to the closure of other online advertising sites, none of them were raided, it was just pressure that caused them to refuse to continue to accept such ads.

Anyway, two questions come to mind.

As a registered Escorts user, what does this mean to me? Nothing I can think of, all they have is my email addy, and some reviews I posted. So no more than they would have here (I can think of some screening sites that would make me more nervous, but even there the practical risk seems minimal).

More interesting, why were they raided? Posting ads is not breaking a law is it? Or is it possible that since all escorts.com did was post ads regarding escorts, some LE hot shot has determined they were soliciting? LB, is that as big a stretch as it seems, or will the advertising of escorts need to move to businesses without any US presence?

thanks,
Zig

a violation of the law.

My guess is that this is pure harrassment, and I doubt that inditements will come out of it, but I could also be wrong.

(still not a lawyer)

will be losing the multi-dollar dollar ad revenue generated by the adult industry as more and more companies start throwing those dollars off-shore to avoid the headache of dealing with the us government.

the us needs to accept the fact that they dont own the internet and they cant dictate what goes on in the online world any more then they can in the rest of the world.

the internet is a global market, not a us market.
