posing as escort to be used as a fake reference, is this why women ask for not one but two well known refernece,
thereby entrapping their clients. I've only heard about this happening twice in the six years I've been paying attention to this.
More common is for LE to put a a BP ad and trap clients that way. It's easier and gets quick results with very little effort on their part.
I don't doubt that they might also set up a website but I don't recall a similar situation being discussed before.

an appointment, you'll be talking to a cop. I actually had that happen once, and it was one of TER's first volunteer member attorneys that clued me in as to how LE conducts these sort of operations. Fortunately, I didn't get caught, but two guys were arrested for setting up appointments with the female cop. They were first-time clients, or else they probably would have known something wasn't right.
This was around 2000, and I think their new m.o. is like mrfisher says- they just set up their own ad and wait for the calls to come in. They were also doing this back in the print era and I barely escaped one of those back in the mid-90's. I was actually saved because someone's radio went off in the squad room and I could hear it. You know what they say about it's better to be lucky than good!
In my former city or residence, LE actually used a vacant condo to set up their sting and ran a fake ad. They'd set up appointments with men who called, then arrest them when they showed up at the door.
There are a lot of variations on this and LE will use them all. Just last year, I set up an appointment to see a lady I'd already seen twice. Our email exchange seemed OK, but maybe a little off in retrospect. But when I made the first call to her telling her I was on my way, the voice didn't sound right and I got very suspicious. I went to the hotel anyway, and drove through the parking lot and the surrounding area. I didn't like a few things I saw but wasn't 100% sure at that point. I made the second call from a parking lot a couple blocks away and this time I was sure I was talking to a female cop. To her credit, she did a pretty good job of using some of the phrases this woman used on her website, but I'd already seen the real lady twice, so it was pretty obvious I was being set up.
I drove away and never had any further contact with her. I did find out, however, that she had been busted. Her web site disappeared and so did her reviews. Several new reviews posted even after I knew she'd been busted, but they may have been legit and just waiting in the pipeline.
LE will use any and all methods available to it, so use your head and always carefully examine everything that's going on. That bit of skepticism has saved my ass on about many occasions, which I've posted about previously over the years.
That is why we must protest,and fight this B.S arrest/charge in part because if they are to pursue us with charges,and jail time. Then why won't the head asshole of the Vice unit go after the Yellow Pages? The yellow books across the un-saintly country have allowed Escort agencies to flourish since the 1980's. The police will not tackle corporate america who own the publishing assests. Because Corp america has so much political clout(Republican get the drift?)!!! The Yellow pages,news paper's and online websites access will upset the apple-cart. The apple-cart is that men pay for the company of adult women.Who cares as long as know one is hurt and we remain discreet..We are not teenage girls,drug addicts nor do we have rabid diseases like society has been brain washed by the silly churches. By the way should you face arrest tell the police you are a communist and a supporter of Fidel Castro. Blab like a lunatic..and state loud and clear that they are terrorists in uniforms. It makes me so dam mad..that tax dollars are being wasted to arrest consenting adults. Check a girl's I.D card,screen her for Warrants or drugs on her person. Why arrest ladies and men for B.S that will clog up the courts..We must rant,rant and rave.. Then they will back-off..if not they will continue will this Government harassment..
When you are arrested...tell the police you request a lawyer. Keep a bail bonds man number in your purse. Let them know you are not afraid of them.. they are lying scumbags who murder people and hide behind a uniform. They are civil servants that can be fired if we make enough noise... F##k um...Pros isn't a murder charge..If you snitch then you should k##l yourself.. Jails are for rapist,child molester's,bank robbers,shoplifter's. Snitching is just wrong!! You will be out in 24hrs...Educate yourself and know your rights.. If we protest in front of the police dept and online..They will back-off and let's repeal this stinking law!!!
I've never heard of it done & it seems overly complicated for an indirect influence to do a sting. It WOULD make sense for a high value target... a celeb, politician... I'd think this appropriate if financial crimes (remember the Eliot Spitzer, then NY Governor... came to light because his illegal financial transction looked like money laundering). It was the bank that flagged the suspicious transactions.
What we have heard of is a provider being busted & then a FM detective answering her phone for the rest of the day, busting prebooked clients as they arrived.
Of course, there are stings where an Undercover LEO tries to make an appointment. On a Escort Drama site (seems to no longer be online) I read of several cases where referances were given but either did not pick up or were made up or possibly picked up off a review site... but generally there was no verification that took place & the busted provider saw the client (ULEO) anyway.
Individual providers use differing screening methods which should not, in any event, be discussed in a public forum. Some are specific about wanting X referances while others are more flexible but in the end want to be assured that the person they are meeting will not harm them. If every provider required 2 referances, it would be impossible for newbies to get started. The same is true of clients who want to see wel reviewed providers. Sometimes, board posts, emails or phone conversations can be convincing that an individual is OK. A provider took a chance on me, did some research on the supplied info for this retired guy... we had a delightful time & I still see her when I'm in town.
