Not industry related, but was wondering if a legal eagle could please explain "abandonment" in terms of a divorce. When and how does it apply and is it recognized in California.

TIA
California is a no fault divorce state. Therefore, there are no other reasons for a divorce which a court will recognize other than 'irreconcilable differences'.
Abandonment (to my understanding) is where one spouce either leaves the other one, and severes contact for a long period of time, OR where one spouce refuses to have sexual relations with the other. I'm not exactly sure on the second part of my definition, but I am absolutely sure about the first part.
Some states still recognize various reasons for divorce (abandmonment, adultry, abuse etc.) but California is a no fault divorce state.
NOW, that does not mean that a spouce cannot convince a judge that the other spouce is an absolute crumb, and therefore they deserve better treatment as far as dividing up the spoils, but I think in most cases, things are pretty much ruled according to how they are alotted for in the legal codes.
