Off Strip Entertainment and Dining?

This post doesn’t have anything to do with hobbying except that while I’m in LV I’d also like to spend some time off the Strip and see the town.  Could anyone point me toward a website which lists venues for local bands?  Like smaller bars and clubs with live music.  Anything’s good, jazz, rock, alternative, country.  Along those lines, I’d also like to visit some local restaurants that are more mom and pop type.  Good food with personality and not part of a chain.

I have tried to Google this, but I keep getting places on the Strip.  I know about those.  Maybe there’s a community events website, or local dining reviews site?

Thanks

not down on the strip?  Hmmm I will have to check that out next trip.

I don't know of any website like you are looking for, but you could always rent a car and go for a ride.  Just stay on the main streets and don't go into any areas that look like they might not be too good cuz if they look like they aint too good, trust me - they aren't.  If you come off of the strip and go east that's all a pretty good area.

You don't say when you are going to be there, but next weekend (June 8 - 10) there is the Electric Daisy Carnival that's out at the Vegas Motor Speedway - that's way off the strip and a little different.

Have fun!!!

has  links to some real good places to eat.  Over the years of going to Vegas I've found a lot of places to eat that are not chains where they have great food.   I don't know much about places with music, the only one I know of if McMullian's Irish Pub, which is on Trop just past the Orleans.  It's a great place to eat and hang out at.  Some other places I've been to are:M &M Soul Food, Chicago Brewing Company, Big Dog Cafe, Crown and Anchor Pub, Rhythm Kitchen, Merkato Ethiopian Cafe, Kung Fu, Paymon's, Hash House a Go Go,  Lotus of Siam, Mint Indian Bistro,  and Three Angry Wives Pub.   If you have any questions drop me a PM. I think I still have a little time left on my VIP status.

As much as I enjoy several strip clubs and restaurants, some of my faves are way off the beaten path.

When I first moved here the LV Weekly magazine really helped me to explore life beyond the blvd. Vegas has some beautiful neighborhoods and hundreds of great local joints.

The linked site is very comprehensive, but picking up a hard copy is also a good idea.

I like the M, Red Rock, and Golden Nugget for off strip casinos. All have great dining, and I'm sure entertainment is found everywhere you go. The Golden Nugget has a new tower and they have a Chart house. Actually, downtown is getting being renovated and is looking much nicer.

Plenty of places to dine off strip. South Las Vegas Blvd you have Town Square with dining shopping clubs and entertainment.  There is a Texas de Brazil there, I love that type of dining.  But if you decide to shop at Town Square keep in mind it is outdoor mall so weather and timing is key. Moreover, east on Flamingo has fantastic restaurants. Roys, Lawrys,  Mortons, Bahama Breeze...

Then over in Summerlin close to Suncoast, there is another outdoor shopping center that is brand new I haven't been to yet but it is called Tivoli Village, and if I remember correctly every weekend they play live Jazz, and that would absolutely make me melt I love love love the saxaphone and any live bands. I'm sure there are great places in Henderson such as Green Valley but I'm rarely on that side of town. Hope this helps you!

Oh, and also driving down Sahara or Charleston have plenty random places to eat. Or you can go to Spring Mountain if you like Chinatown.  I also have to second that on Rhythm Kitchen, great surf n turf
