work # referece

I tried making a couple of appointments 4 days ago.  And for the work # I put my celi, because I work construction, not at an office, so my celi is the only way to reach me at work.  But I didn't get any responses back. I'm wondering if thats why, and if i should just give the company # anyway.  I guess I don''t mind giving my work #, but why do the girls ask for it, are they actually going to ask to talk to my boss like if I was switching companies?

Any comments, please?  All I ever went to was agencies where I live, and there was no checking anything, just call and an hour later there's a knock on the door.

                                thanks for reading.

I have listed my work # on several references and as far as I know nobody has called,, maybe they called to verify I was employed there, but was never notified of any calls,,,, Except when I signed up as a member on RM2000, they actually called me at work, I guess to verify I was there??

Usually, they want the main number of the business (the one listed in the yellow pages) to verify the business and see if you work there.  Giving a mobile number that's difficult to impossible to trace to a person or company won't cut it most of the time.  Generally, using the main business number helps weed out LE (not always but it does help make it harder for them).
