Came home from a week in San Francisco to find this.  Weird, drove past there last night, the parking lot seemed pretty empty.  I just thought it was the rain.  Anyway if you're cumming into Vegas, this may be of interest.

(LAS VEGAS, NV) -- Emboldened by the sweeping new powers given them by the county's lap dance ordinance, Metro Police last night staged an all-out raid at Sapphires Gentleman's Club, citing nearly 15 women for a variety of alleged offenses. One woman, a real estate agent from Texas, was cited for "allowing a customer to touch her buttock."

Choking back tears and speaking on condition of anonymity she told LVDA, "The officer grabbed me, I removed his hand and told him 'No,' but he wouldn't leave me alone. Then he informed me I was being charged with a misdemeanor. I'd never even gotten a speeding ticket before this. If someone like me can get into trouble, it can happen to anyone. My customer vowed never to return to Las Vegas." Following the conversation, Las Vegas Dancers Alliance immediately contacted the District Attorney's office and asked them to investigate.

Commenting on the raid, Andrea Hackett, President/Secretary-Treasurer of the  Las Vegas Dancers Alliance said, "At a time of heightened security, at a time when the budget axe is falling on every social service, at a time when ever police officer in the valley is needed to fight real crime, METRO Police are wasting tax dollars terrifying women and driving visitors away from Las Vegas.

Thanks to Yvonne Atkinson-Gates we now have an ordinance that gives police the power to charge dancers and their customers for the most innocent and casual contact. How long will it be before the vacationing public decides to take their dollars somewhere else?"

Las Vegas Dancers Alliance plans to file an initiative on March 18th to repeal the lap dance ordinance in Clark County.

I know two people that won't be crying over the fact that Sapphires got busted.  I wasn't going to post anything about this because it didn't happen to me, but it did happen to a close friend of mine who would not exaggerate a story like this.

About 2 weeks ago this close friend and another friend decided to check out the action at Sapphires.  They were enjoying themselves, getting lap dances, etc.  Two strippers were especially good, so they decided to join them in a VIP room.  There the subject of the availability of a more "intimate" private show back at my friends place was brought up.  The two strippers agreed to it, at $500(!) a piece (pun intended).

The four of them proceeded to my friends place, the strippers following my friends in a separate car.  Once inside my friends place, and after receiving the cash, the two strippers told my friends to get ready by getting naked, and they would be right with them.  Well, wouldn't you know it, the two strippers pulled the old cash and dash.  They ran out of there, to their car, each $500 richer, and were gone without performing any service what so ever.

I only hope these two were in the 15 that were cited.

I'm sorry to hear what happened to your friend but you don't really want the local government wasting time passing these laws or worse yet spending tax money enforcing them, do you?  If they are going to take police time arresting strippers for petty violations of even pettier laws, they'll be moving on into other areas soon.  You can bet on it.

This story sounds very strange.  The guys know where the strippers work.  What's stopping them from finding out the days they work and going back to the club to get their money by whatever means necessary.

Say what you want about this but here is an example of the type of letters I am getting.  This is not good for Vegas. Cum election time we should vote these rascals out!

Hi, we are a couple from Wisconsin. Will be visiting
Vegas in a couple of days. Saw your message about
the raid at Sapphires. Are there anyVegas area clubs
that are not affected by these rules?
Something about the city or the county?  How about
Olympic Gardens.  We are just looking for a place for
a couple of adults can have a little fun without
worrying about overzealous, underworked cops. Thanks.
