There had been a post a while back about a route to LA known primarily to truck drivers which cut down on travel time considerably. I can't seem to locate it, any information on the quickest route would be appreciated.
...traffic on the I-15. You can take the 58 in Barstow to the 14 to the 405. Or you can take the I-15 to Victorville, then take the 18/138/14 to the 405.
When you get to the Slauson cutoff, get out of your car, cut off your Slauson, get back in your car.
I had to drive that route every 3-6 weeks for 3 years to get Orthodontics. The single lane part is 45min - 60 min? So it's not like all of the trip. I drive to Valencia, one mandatory gas stop, time is right at 4 hours if you're not traveling at an insane time (like Sunday afternoon
Check to make sure some of these freeways being suggested aren't closed due to fire. I had to delay a Vegas trip once due to freeway closure when most of Socal was burning.
There's another "shortcut" (actually 30 miles longer) available for the section of I-15 between Primm and Barstow if that gets backed up. It's not suitable for trucks but it's fine for passenger vehicles, pickups and SUVs. Again, it's also desert highways to be prepared for some dips and bumps, as well as the advice if your tires hit sand. Also, keep in mind it's a bit off the beaten path so make sure you're topped off with gas, water and munchies before you leave Primm:
Follow I-15 S to Nipton Rd in San Bernardino County. Take exit 286 from I-15 S 9 min (9.8 mi)
Get on I-40 W from Morning Star Mine Rd, Kelso Cima Rd and Kelbaker Rd 1 h 5 min (63.3 mi)
