Has anyone been in there since it was remodeled? The rooms were pretty bad when I last stayed there. Definitely won't stay if the remodeled rooms aren't nice. Thanks!

It's still a dump , the use regular keys to open the doors not cards.
It was like going back to the 70's even though its been remodeled .

They've remodeled all the rooms, using the furniture from the bankrupt Fountain Blue hotel.
I think the average rate is about $75, plus a $10 resort fee that covers internet.  The rooms are big, have modern upscale furniture and a safe.

The Golden Nugget is the only 4 star Downtown and it is really nice, but you have to be careful which wing you get.  It's hectic if you have a group because it's so big, but there is a lot going on and the pool area is great.
Have fun!  Downtown is blowing up in a really good way!
You've got to go to Oscars...Beef, Booze and Broads!!

I remember the rooms at the Golden Gate very creepy.
The Golden Nugget all towers have been remodeled and the newest tower Rush is very nice and located right next to their restaurant Chart House. The rooms are very nice.

I recently was able to check out the rooms at the Golden Gate and to my surprise they are very nice.  It is boutique-ish, and very small.  It reminded me of a hotel in SF or NYC, not much room, but you have what you need... a bed.  The building is super old, so the closets don't really fit a suitcase, but it is like stepping back into time.  There are some old hotel pieces around the hotel on display to guests what was typical back then.

They hit you with an expensive resort fee though.  So don't let the cheap listed price fool you.  It would be about $20 more.

Hope that helps.  ~jB

I would spring for the suite vs. the regular rooms. I have also stayed in the Plaza since their remodel and the rooms are so much nicer!!!

The new Grand Hotel will be opening on Oct 27th as well. No idea of rates but it does look to be a very nice addition to the downtown area.

I like the upgraded rooms at the D. the regular rooms are not that nice but for an xtra like 10 bucks you get a much bigger and better room. Plus usually on orbitz or a similar site they have they cut they prices to have cheap rooms. or like Angella said the Grand looks very nice. I work downtown and got a private tour of some of the hotel rooms of the grand recently and some of the suites are beautiful, very modern, full glass window walls, great views overlooking downtown, going to be a pool on the roof. Going to be awesome

I love the Golden Nugget & downtown! & I like choosing between Hugo Cellar's & Oscars. They have always been very nice to meet at the Golden Gate, I feel like I owe them a stay... Since getting the regular rooms comped doesn't sound like a bargain, I'll try to get a suite. Anything special going on Thanksgiving weekend? Thanks for everyone's input!
