un planned travel costs

annoying thing happened last week.  i bought a girl round trip ticket to meet me out of town.   we have two great nights.   on her way back to the airport Allegiant cancels flight and re-schedules to next day.   of course girl wants to get back to home town that day.   so costs me $600 one way on another airline.   I figure travel is the hobbiest's responsibility but ...  if anyone else or say any independent businessperson they would just have to wait til the next day or buy the ticket themselves.   drat!

anyone else have similar unplanned costs and how did the handle?

They frequently cancel flights and lets not even go there about their shoddy repairs on their planes.
Sorry I digress....but when you ask someone to travel to you...you incur their travel costs.
When I went to NYC to visit on my return flight I realized that EDC was coming to town so there were people trying to get to Vegas.I fly stand-by only so I figured slim chance I was going to get on that flight but I had to get home the next day.
I had to pay over 700 one way on United to get home but I had to do it could not wait another day.But boy I was pissed for days on that one...lol

yeah -- first and last time using them ..  problem was last minute booking and very limited flights to secondary market city where we met, otherwise would never have even thought of them.

interesting side note .. i went to airport buy the ticket with cash mmm i wonder why LOL ..  apparently airlines no long accept cash - fortunately they just installed a cash card machine in the LA terminal.  only $5 fee.  so double whammy i had to buy the return ticket with my AMEX card ....  so i have two weeks to try to figure out how to explain that to our company bookkeeper !   pretty certain amex lists the passenger name with the charge  ugh

Allegiant and Frontier typically only have a couple flights a week.....

Southwest has many flights per day.

i fly delta and never had a problem, but if i did, i believe it is my responsibility not yours...you had already fulfilled your part...crap happens

I think paying the $600 was the right thing to do.  If you were her employer, that would be the expectation to get her home in time.

Look at it this way, if you had booked her airfare on a better airline, it probably would have cost you $600 more.  So you took at shot at saving $600 and it didn't work out this time.  Probably worth the gamble.

Not sure how you booked your flight, but if you happened to book with a credit card, you may be eligible for reimbursement. The entire flight must be booked through the card and not a split payment.

Check your credit card terms and conditions for details and to see if the carrier cancellation qualifies.

thanks for the advice ......... when i tell friends about this board they dont beleive me when i say there are actual normal helpful topics LOL  its not all about female body parts  LOL    sadly i paid the original ticket using a cash card trying to keep the charge private .. but good to know for future travel plans.   i do know that some airlines offer travel insurance in case something happens on their end.

Don't buy into the airlines' travel insurances if you have an eligible credit card with travel benefits. Premium credit cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve/Preferred, Amex PRG/Platinum, and Citi Presitge all offer trip delay reimbursement, travel accident insurance, roadside assistance, as well as lost baggage insurance. Just make sure you understand the terms and conditions of the benefits.

I highly recommend the Chase Sapphire Reserve. The annual fee is $450, but it is effectively $150 after the $300 annual travel credit for travel-related expenses like hotel expenses, flight purchases, car rentals, seat upgrades, taxis and trains, etc.

The signup bonus used to be 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points, which is worth $1500 worth of flights, hotels, or car rentals when redeemed through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Portal, or redeemed for $1000 in cash via direct deposit or a statement credit. Unfortunately the signup bonus is now 50,000 points.
