Harrah's should be reopening the Horseshoe next month. I don't think they'd pass up the opportunity to promote the Horseshoe brand (they bought up the riverboats for $1.5 billion, spending $50 million on the downtown LV Horseshoe is like found money).
Here's a link to a story in today's (2-19-04) Las Vegas Review-Journal regarding the Horseshoe downtown. It seams Harrah's is selling it to another company. However, the article states that Harrah's will manage the property even though it will be owned by someone else. (Good thing, the Speedway Casino in North Las Vegas, mentioned in the article, is a dump.) Target date for reopening the Horseshoe is April 1.
As stated in the article, Harrah's will continue to operate the World Series of Poker. (Indeed, it was the primary reason for them purchasing the Horseshoe.) However, it might be moved to Harrah's on the strip or to the Rio (also owned by Harrah's).
Here's a link to a story in today's (02-20-04) Las Vegas Review-Journal. It seems there could be a monkey wrench in the works regarding the Binions-Harrah's-MTR Gaming deal for the Horseshoe.
