I'll pass that information on to the LPIN community (those who patronize the legal brothels of Nevada). An added excuse for some to bypass Sin City in favor of visiting the Reno/Tahoe/Carson City area.
It seems McCarran is putting in concrete on a runway for the new A380s, so when the wind kicks up a bit (over 10 knots), flights may end up delayed due to air traffic control holds.
Per the link below:
"Runway 25L/07R at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS) is scheduled to be closed from November 1, 2008 until May 1, 2009 for construction. The runway closure is expected to have a major impact on arrival and departure rates resulting in likely delays in and out of the airport during construction."
Flights yesterday were delayed hours (mine 2.5 hours) with some as long as 5 hours. The C gates were overflowing with passengers as those delayed mixed with people arriving for flights that were delayed. Airports all over the country were affected.
It was a real mess. Had I been informed ahead of time I would have made different arrangements.
My advice - don't schedule any flight that has a change of planes in vegas and don't plan on leaving on time if your flight originates here.
US Air killed 30% of their service (mostly the red eye flights out of Vegas) and effectively kill Vegas as a hub in favor of Phoenix. All the other airlines have reduced service to Vegas so the loss of the runways shouldn't be too bad.
Still, kills a view, I likes the right window seats on the flights in and see the valley and the strip coming down 25L. Guess buzzing the strat will have to do.

... I routinely drive to Vegas in under 4 hours. I leave at 9am, and arrive BY 1-130pm... no stress, good audio book, and I arrive refreshed and ready to party.
Last time I flew to Vegas, I had to get to the airport by 7am for my 8am flight which didn't leave till 9:45, landed an hour later but it was almost another 40 minutes before finally departing the airport. Then I went to the car rental, and by the time I got to my hotel destination, it was past noon. And I was a wreck.
Once upon a time, I loved to fly. Still do, but not commercially.
well, avoid I-15 near the strip and north of downtown Las Vegas for that matter. Heavy construction making life miserable for those that use these roads daily.
As for Pahrump drivers, the overpass over the railroad tracks at Blue Diamond and Jones is looking good. Maybe we'll see that hassle eliminated by early 2009. The roadwork being done between Rainbow and Durango is making access from those streets (and Buffalo) onto Blue Diamond a crap shoot.
....from Boston, I don't think I have a choice...lol! Still will be coming in December to see my favorite lady, I think. Besides, it can't be any worse than taking any connector through Philly....ugh!!!
