I don't think you should have any problem booking a one hour appointment, and I don't think that is considered rude or improper. It is true that some girls require longer appointments, but some other girls actually prefer shorter ones, with one hour being considered the minimum. Not having references is a tougher problem, I think, but hey, we all had to stsrt somewhere! There are other ways to be screened that most girls are willing to acquiesce to, as long as you are also willing to provide them with some personal information about yourself. If I were you, I would contact some girls you would like to see, explain your situation as you did in this post, and find out how they respond to you. I'm almost certain that you will find a lady who will make an appointment with you, and I am VERY certain that you will enjoy your time with her more than your previous visits to massage parlors, especially the ones here in Vegas! Some thoughts:

If you can't afford the going rate for one hour, save your cash and spend it somewhere else where the rates are more in your price range.  In the midwest, the rates tends to be lower than Vegas.

Use a verification service like Date Check and Preferred 411.  If you plan to see providers around Chicagoland, Room Service 2000 is another choice.

If you can't find a chunk of time in your schedule for an appointment, you'll pay a premium for other choices.  Considering you say you are not able to afford much over an hour session, assuming an indie with good reviews, those other options can get expensive (brothels, agencies, bar girls, dancers, etc.).  Maybe another reason to see the ladies closer to home so you don't lose your wad while swimming with the sharks in Vegas.  One survey I saw rated the cost of seeing a provider for an hour in Vegas the most expensive in the US.    Why cut your teeth here where it'll cost more to get that experience under your belt?  With all the ripoffs here, it's not worth taking that chance.
