Especially from the standpoint of being a hobbyist who has a bit of a "profile" in this town (i.e., if I stay at certain casino hotels, I'm very likely to be seen by someone I know).

With no casino on the premises, it's perfect for my needs when I'm entertaining my female friends.

The penthouse suites on the top floors are very nice, and give you awesome views at night.

As far as cheaper dining options, there's a whole bunch of typical junk (Bubba Gump, Friday's, etc) around there also, once you actually get to the Strip, and coffee shops at Aria or Bellagio.

There was one time when I was disappointed with the cleanliness of my room upon checking in--no food left over or anything, just that I noticed dust on the tops of counters and the fridge.

Aside from that one time, I have only good things to say about the place.  Usually my first choice.

but don't know where you are reading the "mixed" reviews.  I am seeing consist ratings between 4 and 5 stars.

I have stayed there once - memorable experience with two beautiful ladies - security checks keys.
There was a nice lobby bar to meet.
It is also connected via outdoor walkway to Bellagio....but the walk to Cosmo or Aria is faster.

Nice Technology in room, 46" HD tv's, tech hub for all devises and you do have microwave to use in small kitchen area.

I would also look at Aria or Cosmo.

If you are older, maybe Bellagio. Cosmo trends to younger side.

Not stayed at either for a couple years and dreaming of getting back to visit Vegas.......I miss it.

The rooms are great! The views are great!

For other dining options, you can take the tram to Monte Carlo, they have a food court - Or you can go over the bridge to the other side of Las Vegas blvd and there is food court nearby and the Harley Davidson restaurant is Good!

I Like It There

Its a pretty nice place.  I have not stayed there to know about the staff service, but I have been in the rooms and suites and from what I have seen and experienced seems like a really nice place to stay.  Its right in the middle of the strip too.  Access to the tram.  And like others said, there are food places all around you.  Monte Carlo, Aria, etc.

My first time as a hobbyist was there last November. I have stayed at many other hotels on the strip including Aria, Bellagio, and the Venetian. I thought it was on par with the others. Staff at bar downstairs was very nice as were the parking valet staff.
The lady who I saw for my first hobby adventure had no problem getting past security and to my room, but she is especially charming. Spicy, too.
