When I was exploring Vegas before relocating here, I rented a corporate rental for what was supposed to be two weeks. Ended up being a month. 
I went to open houses on my own and saw what I could get for my money and then proceeded to move forward with finding a realtor etc...
If you are thinking of buying, this is the right time. There are somewhere between 5-10 vacant, beautiful homes in my development which have been empty for between 9months-3 years. All under $350,000 with a few around $180,000 (no pool/upgrades etc but still very nice.)
If renting is more your style, many families are desperate to hold on to their homes and are offering very flexible rental agreements for very reasonable rental rates. Granted, most HOA rules in master planned communities such as Summerlin or Henderson hold restrictions against short term rentals, many will allow just a 3 month minimum. (Otherwise, be sure to find a corporate rental which will not be difficult.)
One extra thing to consider: two story vs one story home along with square footage. Many homes with over 2300 sf or two stories will have more than one AC unit. This may not seem to be a big deal in the cooler winter months but I speak from experience: heat rises, and as it's sunny here 98% of the time, if your bedroom/gameroom/whatever room is upstairs and receives direct sunlight, you WILL be using that AC unit even in those cooler months. And in the summer, the usage of three AC units will add up quickly. Ouch.
In any event, my greatest recommendation would be to spend a few weeks out here, explore on your own and be confident that you will find something to suit your needs.
