It's about a low end as I would to go, but it's easy to get comped there, and for being on the strip the tables are a good deal. There are always a couple of $5 craps tables, the field pays 3x on boxcars, and there is a single 0 roulette table with a $1 -$5 minimum. They got entertainment; Andrew Dice Clay and strippers at the bar. Yeah it's kinda low rent, couple of bums outside begging, graffiti in the bathroom, but the Peppermill is next door and that has received some good comments on this board for an all night bar. They have a romantic fire place lounge area, and a 9/6 jacks or better video poker. Across the street is CircusCircus, even a lower low rent place, but the girls don't like it because their are two many families with kids. But they have great pay outs for special hands in poker, and the players generally suck. The Stratosphere is not a bad place, but I've never been to the rooms, its the north end, and that part of the strip is run down.
Personally I'm not impressed by the high end strip (but the Mandaly Bay is really nice, very cool pool and concerts). But the Bellagio and the Venetian are tooooo over the top for me. I really like the atmosphere of Downtown and Fremont street. It's a wild party with several stages and live bands, and the odds are so good they are referred to as "Downtown Odds". I went there with Charlotte of LV once, a real down to earth girl for a real down to earth date. She took me to a bar that had a miniature golf course inside. We had allot fun. But the ONLY hotel worth staying at is the Golden Nugget, it's actually very nice. I loved the spa and the weight room. Right accross the street is Binions which has a 24th story steak house with a great view. I went to dinner there with LaRue McCay, and I also also saw April Luv on that visit and neither of those highly reviewed ladies objected to the Golden Nugget. (but here's a tip, figure out how to pay for their parking first, you can get it validated the casino. It's not a money issue, the girls hate paying for parking since its free every where else in Vegas, it the principle). Also Hugo's Celler is another good restaurant accross the street in the Four Queen. And there's a discount outlet for show tickets there as well.
Another hotel casino that is mentioned a lot here is the South Point. It's a drive, but it's cheap and relatively nice. The casino has "downtown odds" but the roulette tables don't have history boards and the single zero cost more. They got $5 craps table but it felt on slate, very little bounce, which is actually good for a rhythm throw IF the felt is new (it was last year). They also have 2/4 limit poker. Several guys have asks on the board about it and the girls say it's OK.
Your strategy for a Vegas vacation sounds just like mine. I save hobby money with a monthly budget and then I get a part time job. The family gives me a small budget for the trip expenses and I make it stretch by using frequent flyer miles for air fare, timeshares for the room, comp nights for extra days, groupons, I'll eat in the room for meals, a couple days I'll survive on dried soybeans, sunflower seeds, nuts and V-8 juice, and the Calloway center has a cheap par three with a great practice facility. I'll splurge on one show during my stay. For the most part I like spending my cash on the girls.
I'm stopping in the Gold Coast this trip just to see what the big issue is or was.
But if you put a plan together, post your questionable hotels on the board. The girls will tell you which ones they won't do. But I suspect the big issue is not the hotel but you. If you don't have references, are unwilling to cooperate with alternative screening (work information), have a bad attitude, and communicate poorly via email; add that to staying at a cheap hotel and it will be problematic to get a date from a well reviewed girl.
Good luck, I hope this was helpful.
