If you don't mind being off the strip try the Orleans. Good Value and big poker room with constant cash games and two tourneys daily.
You're right but, talking as a poker player, many locals usually play there so tournaments are a bit tough. Don't know for sure about rates, but Treasure Island has few tournaments daily, not so tough, and shouldn't be so expensive
Been coming to Vegas for years and have stayed at several places on the strip. The past few years, as my trips get longer I've been staying at the Sahara. (yeah I know, most people think it's a pit) But I get a nice suite for less than most normal rooms on the strip, they have 3 poker tournaments a day, better than average comps and they are lady friendly most of the time. Since I'd rather spend my money on other things than the room and I usually stay for a week or more at a time I'm going to need a new home when I come to town. I doubt I'm going to find the same type of room for the prices I usually pay now but that's life. So I'm looking for a reasonably priced place with a nice clean room and inexpensive poker tournaments daily. I've stayed at the MGM, Mirage, Ceasars, Venitian, Flamingo, Paris, Luxor, TI and The Riviera so I know the story on those. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
They sure are, but might be a little too pricey for stays of a week or more and I know nothing about the gambling at city center. Is there a poker room over there someplace? Thank you for the feedback Pretty KrystalLove...
I've also gotten some pretty good reports on Monte Carlo, the Rio and the Golden Nugget. I'm very familiar with The Rio, but know very little about the Monte Carlo and the Golden Nugget. I'd appreciate any feedback anybody can give me on them. I have a trip planned for May.
The Sahara owes me a pretty good chunk of money in actual cash and comps. Does anybody think I'll have a problem collecting if I'm not back there before the week they close? Plus I have outstanding sports book tickets for baseball. They will be closed before the tickets are finalized think I'll have any trouble getting my money back? TER community, thank you for any insight you can provide on this.
From what I've read, the hotel and casino are separate operations. Yes granted when the hotel closes down, the casino won't be in operation anymore, but maybe the operators of the casino have another casino in town. I would check with a host, if you have one.
this would be the only hotel that I would recommend downtown. They have a new tower and have remodeled some of the hotel I am not too sure if they offer inexpensive poker tables. But,I am sure it is less expensive than some of the strip hotels. The Golden Nugget also has some pretty nice suites I hope this helps you out.

I like Golden Nugget too, they have special rates for spring/summer if booked in advance. Stayed there 2 weeks ago for $39.99/night.
The poker room is small and cozy, they do have daily poker tournaments.
If you don't mind being off the strip try the Orleans. Good Value and big poker room with constant cash games and two tourneys daily. I would call the Sahara ASAP and ask about cashing out. I would guess comps might be lost but you might be able to cash tickets via registeredmail.

I would think you could get a reduced rate based on your play. You could also take a chance with hotwire.com a couple of days before you begin your stay to see if there are some reasonably priced rooms because of inventory. So get a nice room and hop a cab or drive to your tourneys.
