Question about reference etiquette...

Hello ladies (at least those of you who are still checking the TER board)...

I'll start by saying I'm not intending this as an ISO post, just a question regarding reference etiquette.

Is 'past 6 months' the standard etiquette a guy should follow on requesting (and providing) references?

As I prepare for an upcoming Vegas trip, I've noticed a few Vegas providers recently tweeting that they won't provide references for guys unless they've seen them in the past 6 months.  My assumption is that based on this reasoning, these ladies also won't accept references that are more than 6 months old.

I was actually planning on trying to schedule with one of these ladies, but I decided not to contact her because my references are definitely not recent, and considering how infrequently I do this, they rarely will be.  I also never want to be an annoying time waster by  requesting a reference from a lady that I saw two years ago.  I don't send my work information online, so I generally have always relied on references for screening (or showing my license at the beginning of the date).

As I mentioned, this isn't an ISO post.  For this trip I've decided it makes sense to repeat with some of the great Vegas ladies I've already had the pleasure of spending time with.

Really, I'm just wondering if it is proper etiquette to follow the 6 month rule when requesting a reference from a lady?  Or do some ladies use other cutoffs, like past 12 months?

Sorry, that was a long-winded way to ask a simple question.

Your question is a good one!! I have written 3 long replies and ended up deleting them all for fear of being criticized. So I give up...Lol

But I will say three things.
1. NO!!! Don't live by that 6 month rule or you'll drive yourself crazy!!!
2. We should all be helping each other as much as we can in these crazy times.
3. If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.

But if it has been more than a year I tell the lady how long it has been. It is then her choice if she wants to accept it.

Thanks for the replies ladies.

I thought 6 months seemed a bit strict and limiting, but wanted to make sure it wasn't just me thinking that.  I don't believe something magically happens to a person after 6 months that potentially changes them into a drastically different person.  But also, I will always respect a lady's rules and criteria for providing and receiving references.

I should also point out that the handful of Vegas ladies I've seen thus far have always been more than happy to provide references, even well after 6 months.  The 6 month rule is something I've only seen relatively very  recently, and perhaps it's a reaction to FOSTA-SESTA (but I'm totally guessing on that).

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts ladies!  It's good to know that my references aren't totally useless already, especially considering they are from some very reputable ladies.

Some gents only play when they're out of town on their annual convention/guys only weekend/ golf tourny. I give references as long as you're in my data bank.

Same here.  I don't have a 6 year history, but I will give a reference for anyone that I have seen over the last 2 1/2 years since  I started providing.
I did have a provider, here in Vegas, get very upset with me when I tried to verify someone that had seen her over a year ago.  She yelled at me and told me I was stupid for trying to verify that long ago (the client had only done this a handful of times and not very frequently), she told me I had better rethink my business model.  The nerve of her, LOL.  Providers should help each other out, not criticize for trying to stay safe and help out a every now and then hobbyist have some fun.

I have provided references for a gent for a year or two after seeing him.
Every lady does what works best for her.

That's good to hear, because you're probably most recent reference at this point!

It's good to hear that some providers are providing references for clients that they haven't seen for more than a year.  My hobbying has been rather sporadic for the past few years, since Im not traveling as often for work like in years past.  I've often seen more providers when I'm traveling, than when I'm at home.

Although being in Chicago, I tend to rely on RS-AVS for verification which has always been a plus for us mid-westerners.  Unlike P411 which is no longer accepting new members, RS-AVS is still active and they recently moved their site overseas.  So, hopefully they will be around for awhile.  Perhaps more providers in other states will checkout them out and start accepting RS-AVS for verification too.

Yes, I definitely feel better after seeing the replies to this thread.  After seeing those tweets, I was concerned that I was being a time waster if I reached out for a reference 1+ years after meeting a lady.  But it seems the ladies with a firm "past 6 month" rule are a minority.

Based on the responses from the ladies in this thread, I've decided to try and schedule time with at least one new lady during my upcoming trip - in addition to repeating with a past favorite.

Thanks to everyone for the discussion in this thread.  It's good to see the forum isn't totally dead yet, and can still be a resource for asking questions and sharing opinions.

I accept RS-AVS and am a member.  Mainly to give hobbyist more opportunities for screening and because I work in Chicago during July.
