I would recommend saying you are signing up for a poker tournament preferrably at a hotel you are not staying at. You can either not sign up at all or get yourself eliminated early (some tournaments are under $100) and then meet up with your provider.
You'll of course need a provider who is willing to be very discreet. It blocks out a substantial amount of time for your extracurricular activities.
I am a married guy and I finally am getting away for a little guys trip to Vegas in early March. I am very interested in taking some time for myself while in Vegas to spend some time entertaining while I am there. But what I am looking for some advice on is ... what is a good excuse I can come up with for splitting away from my friends while there so that I can meet up with a provider. i really dont want to veer to far from the strip. I need to be somewhat discreet around them, so that I can ensure that all my stories , well you know "stay in Vegas" Any thoughts? thanks.
Here's one for you, tell your friends you are going across the street to gamble at ______casino, whichever one is actually across the street from you, then ask them to come along, but add "I'm not bringing a lot of cash with me to XXX casino, so I might need to borrow a few grand while we are over there" that should get rid of them, and you will be free to hobby to your heart's content. lol
Another thing you can do is tell the guys your going to wander around the casino for awhile. They are so big they will never find you. Or tell them you need to go back to the room, that your not feeling well and need to use the bathroom and then just take off and have a ball.
I've used. I need to have dinner with my uncle/cousin...or I'm gonna walk the strip to look for a gift for my wife/gf. Once you are alone they will never find you.
...but I have to sit thru a 2 hour hard sell timeshare presentation in exchange for a free or low cost 4 day 3 night future stay at a major strip resort. That should ensure you some time away from the group. Or, I wanna check out this tattoo parlor and have our company's logo tattooed on my ass. Tell them you want to see the paintings at the Bellagio or the art museum (and now I can't remember where that is!) or the tigers at the MGM, even though they are gone, your buddies will never follow you to one of those places!

You could tell your friends you are going shopping you want to check out a couple of malls or hotel shops. Like another reply said you could also use the poker tournament story a poker tournament could go on for hours.If you are not a gambler you could tell your friends you always wanted to participate in a poker tournament of course you are not going to this tournament in your hotel.I would not even suggest a hotel right across the street I would suggest a hotel that is further down the strip. Thank you everyone for teh advice, some were funny and some were helpful. the last response nailed my problem. Its not so much the excuse that I need, its getting the timing right. It will be challenging because first I need to find a provider and schedule, then I need to get "lost with the right timing".
I figure it will be a little expensive, but I was thinking of booking a second room either at the same hotel or a different one, that way I have a set place to entertain when I get away. I agree that, the funny thing is that my buddy may be thinking the same thing.
I will be comming out teh second weekend in March, so I have a little time to plan. but now starts teh fun part .... doing my research for a provider
